Top Profiles of 2020: No. 6 McGwire Turner

Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

We continue our countdown of the Top Profiles of 2020 with '22 3B McGwire Turner (Helena) who comes in at No. 6. Turner was a member of Team Alabama at the 2020 PBR Future Games and is currently ranked #26 in the Alabama 2022 class.

The 6-2 190 pound 3B also doubles as the Helena QB in the fall as he shows off his athleticism on the gridiron as well. The 7.07 runner shows some big time power to the pull side and is equally adept to driving balls to the backside gap as well. At the 2020 Future Games, McGwire smased a 2B off the wall in CF at 95 mph off the bat. The athleticism jumps out at the "hot corner" as the feet work well and he often makes the difficult play look routine. The arm strength is there which will allow him to stay on the left side of the infield. Turner is currently uncommitted.

Turner has really added nice size and strength over the last year and the skills have shown nice development as well. Slightly open toe tap approach at the plate with some definite tilt in the swing path. Did a nice job of staying short with the hands and barrel and repeatedly worked the middle to RCF gap during BP. There is some strength in the hands as well. Liked the approach, also had a 2B to RCF in game play. Defensively, the arm strength is solid (81 mph across the diamond) and loved the footwork on the dirt as well as the momentum through the throw. There is some quick twitch in his actions.

McGwire Turner (2022, SS/OF, Helena) 5’11 135 lbs- 7.19.18-  another young player at the event that ran an 8.28 60 yard dash while showing an IF velo of 68 mph. His glovework was solid with good presentation of the glove and fluid actions. At the plate, he had an exit velo of 76 mph from a slightly open stance with an inside out approach and a backside approach.
