PBR Draft Tracker: Arizona Roots

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

PHOENIX, AZ. - The 2020 MLB Draft has come to a close after a limited number of players selected due to the unexpected season shutdown. The situation provided an interesting format with some surprises throughout the draft. The state of Arizona was lucky enough to be well represented in this years draft with a high school standout taken in the first round as well some college players with Arizona roots taken throughout the draft. The 2020 MLB Draft class was highlighted by the No. 1 overall pick, Spencer Torkelson from Arizona State University. Cienega High School alum, Nick Gonzales was also take with the No. 7 overall pick from New Mexico State. The lone prep star from Arizona, Carson Tucker from Mountain Pointe High School was taken 23rd overall. We are confident that if the full draft were to take place this year, we would have seen an even stronger presence of Arizona players coming off the board. The next couple years of scouting should be pretty exciting.
