Hagerty's Experience and Greene's Bat Leads to a 7-2 Opening Day Win
February 20, 2018
Oviedo, FL – This season opener for Windermere and Hagerty HIgh School was highlighted by two top 2019 prospects, Florida recruit Riley Greene and UCF recruit RHP Noah Janney . Greene did not disappoint, going 2 for 2 with a walk and his lone out being a RBI opposite field sacrifice fly. Greene also got to show off his speed in his last at bat, as he tripled over the centerfielders head in the bottom of the 6th inning. He showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields as he hit the ball hard in all three at bats to left, center and right.
Windermere HS jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first off a walk and back to back singles. Luke Babineau was the starting pitcher for Hagerty. He threw three innings giving up 3 hits. Babineau has a tall projectable body, with a loose easy arm action. He threw his fastball from an over the top slot at 80-82 mph with a 68 mph slurve type breaking ball. Two of the three hits surrendered by Babineau were to Carlos Anderson who plated the first two runs of the game with backside singles in the first and third innings. He ended up going 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI and threw out a runner during the game from behind the dish.
Noah Janney had some command issues to start the game throwing 8 of his first 10 pitches for a ball before settling in and allowing only three hits over his four innings of work. The Wolverines defense showed its youth, allowing three unearned runs in the third inning, started off by a throwing error from shortstop. Janney sat 86-88 mph over the 4 innings, with a power slider at 77-79 mph. His slider has a chance to be aplus pitch.. He possess an athletic frame as attacks hitters with a quick arm action.
Hagerty’s bullpen would hold together and shut the door, as the offense would pull away. The Huskies would take the opener 7-2.
