Spring Rankings Update: Class of 2028
March 28, 2025
Our class of 2028 rankings have been updated & expanded leading into the spring. While still very early in the process, our Freshman Preseason All-State, and our Preseason ID series, brought several names-to-know to the forefront this winter - on top of the twenty prospects who made the initial rankings list at the end of 2024. This list will evolve as prospects begin to blossom, with the frame, athleticism, and the overall actions weighing heavily in this initial expansion, along with showcase metrics if applicable. The 'gamers' will have the opportunity to establish themselves this spring, summer, and fall between the white lines, and the late-bloomers will certaintly make a splash at some point, but for now - enjoy our initial top 100 for the class of 2028. Find the full list linked below, along with some notes on the top 10 (including a pair of risers), and finally a spotlight on five new faces who rise into the top 20 in this update.

+ A pair of risers highlight the movement in the top 10, two players ranked highly on our initial board that took advantage of the offseason and showed off encouraging development trends at one of our events this winter. RHP Bishop Moore rises four spots to the No. 6 overall slot. The 6-foot-6, 180 pound frame oozes projection and his mid-80s (T 87 mph) fastball comes out of the hand with easy life. The fastball is one of the best in the class presently, and there are traits to suggest that it should stay that way for the next four years. He is athletic for his massive frame and is also a standout in football (QB1) and on the basketball court. There is some feel to shape his offspeed pitches, as well, but the upside here merits the move up and Moore appears next-in-line in Indiana's rich tradition of producing high-level, power arms.

+ CF Hayden Zellers appears in the top ten for the first time after a solid all-around performance at the Freshman Preseason All-State. He took a pristine round of batting practice with a sweet, on-plane, left-handed stroke that produced exits over 90 mph. The 6-foot, 155 pound frame holds ample room for strength gains and his 6.82 60-yard dash should develop into a plus tool over the next few years. The swing mechanics are advanced and he has shown bat-to-ball across a variety of looks. Zellers has a chance to develop into a premier defensive CF, adding another potential tool to an already well-rounded card.

6’0” 155 lbs
Silky mover w/ excellent bat-to-ball.
Exits peaked at 90.8 mph - lots left in the tank.
6.82 60-yard dash (1.60 10-yard split) adds excitement to the offensive profile. #INFROSHPAS25 || @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/NF7xTTWgfT

Ian Funk LHP / Andrean, IN / 2028*Ranked No. 11 overall, #2 LHP* + From the Freshman Preseason All-State: Frame / Athleticism: A lean, thin-hipped, projectable, 5-foot-11, 155 pound southpaw. He showed great body control in his bullpen. He is young for the class, still 14. Stuff: Fastball played at 77-79 with occasional cut and he displayed good control. He pitches from a 4'3" release height and the fastball plays with a very low vertical approach angle. His 63-65 curveball spun over 2300 at times with big sweep, averaging 19". The changeup faded to the arm-side with later break at 70-71. His breaking ball was commanded. Arm Action / Delivery: Easily the most polished delivery of the day, low effort, balanced and repeatable. Does land with open front toe that likely cleans up with strength. Exceptional hip-to-shoulder. Its a loose, full circle arm action with some whip to 3/4 arm angle. Summation: Funk was frankly my favorite watch of the day as it was my first time getting eyes on and he came highly recommended. The delivery is exceptional and strikes came with it. While the stuff doesn't jump out right now, the arm action is easy to bet on and there is shape to his secondaries. The ease of operation makes it easy to put a starters' tab and the lower release height should help his stuff play above its' velocities. |

Braylon Storey SS / RHP / Center Grove, IN / 2028*Ranked No. 14 overall, #5 RHP* + From the Freshman Preseason All-State: Frame / Athleticism: Athletic, explosive, 6-foot-2, 170 pound broad-shouldered frame. Frame has plenty of room to pack on with an immature look. Posted some of the events' best athletic metrics - 6.72 60-yard dash and event best 29.3" vertical. Stuff: Backspun fastballs in the 82-87 range while flashing big carry. Ball jumps out. Killed spin on a low-70s changeup that played with fade. Showed a big, upper-60s curveball that has shape and spun in the 2000-2100 range. Fastball tended to miss up, change was best commanded offering. Flashed feel to land CB. Arm Action / Delivery: Stretch-only mover. Posts onto back leg as he gets to a tall, athletic lift and tilts shoulders. Uncoils with an explosive move and short arm action to a high 3/4 release. Summation: The athletic measurements and frame speak for themselves - he has room to grow into a lengthy, athletic frame and the present explosiveness jumped out at me. He is also an interesting position player profiling as a left-side defender with some power potential, but the upside is tremendous on the bump. He reminds me in a couple ways of Blane Metz, a soft comp for now. There is rawness to the delivery to clean up but the unteachableness is apparent here. |

Cooper Yeakle LHP / Fishers, IN / 2028*Ranked No. 16 overall, #4 LHP* + From the Preseason Preview: Scouting Report: I first identified Yeakle throwing on a Grand Park backfield at 14u, sitting about 75 mph with hands nearly to his knees and a loose left arm. He got an invite to our Fall State Games last fall, and went to work this offseason to show huge gains since his last appearance with us. Now all of 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, that loose, whippy arm now produces a low-slot fastball that sat 81-83 and was up to 83.5 mph. The fastball plays with big arm-side run and he also showed a developing 75-77 slider and an upper-70s change. The secondaries still need to refine, but the arm is what I like best here. Yeakle shows several traits indicative of a future prospect, and his development will be monitored closely moving forward.

Jacob Forystek OF / Lake Central, IN / 2028*Ranked #19 overall, #5 OF* + From the Freshman Preseason All-State: Frame: Athletic, twitchy, 5-foot-10, 165 pound frame, younger for the class with an immature look. Toolset/Profile: 7.03 runner in the 60-yard dash, 1.63 10-yard, 10th best vertical at the event (24.4"). 94.2 mph exit was a top 10 velo of the day, swing is twitchy with feel to lift, has a chance to hit for above average pop with more strength and maturity. There was feel to the hit tool during BP but the swing is a bit unorthodox - needs to be evaluated further in game setting. The arm is an above average tool for the class presently and will likely be another tool in the bag for him, making at least a RF profile comfortable with CF upside with the twitchy/athletic actions. He reminds me a bit of Indiana signee Noah Drake at the age. Actions: Offensive - Starts wide with higher hands and barrel perpendicular to an upright torso. Makes a big backshift move early as the toe-tap retracts, uses a big barrel tip to keep his hands back as he goes forward. Creates a ton of linear separation. Sequences very, very well to get the most out of his body. It is violent, but there is control to it. Direct barrel works to leverage. Hands are quick. Defense - Aggressive athlete, arm works. 84 outfield velo Summation: Forystek is a gut-feel guy and one that really won me over in his batting practice round. He oozed confidence in the way he stepped to the plate and got off controlled-but-violent left-handed hacks. The hands have some electricity to them and he showed barrel feel. The moves are really big and I'm curious to see the adjustability in game, but there does appear to be some unteachableness to the operation with the aforementioned twitch. I've gotten fantastic reports from the Lake Central staff and look forward to following Forystek in 2025. |

Henry Skeen OF / RHP / Hamilton Southeastern HS, IN / 2028*Ranked #20 overall, #8 RHP* + From the Preseason Preview: Scouting Report: Skeen is another freshman that showed a glimpse of his high ceiling at this event. The 6-foot, 170 pounder uses an up-tempo delivery with a tall lift and dynamic move down the slope. The hips are advanced for the class and the arm works full and fast. The fastball worked in the low-to-mid 80s, touching 86 twice, but he mostly pitched at 82-84 with control. His low 70s slider and mid-70s split both show proper shape and appear usable, with the split as the better pitch on this day. Skeen is a great rotator for the age, evident in the 97-plus exits he produced from the right-side of the dish and he holds some upside as a potential power hitting corner OF, as well, but the operation he brought to the bump is one of my favorites in the 2028 class from the winter showcase season.
