KS Uncommitted Spotlight: Util Quinton Coats

This fall and winter PBR will be highlighting some of the top uncommitted players in the 2023 and 2024 classes. Today, we take an in-depth look at 2024 utility Quinton Coats. The Olathe South product is one of the most physical uncommitted bats in the state at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. The right-handed hitter posted an impressive 98 mph top exit velo and an impressive average of 92.4. Coats can play all over the field thanks to good hands, carry on his throws, and a 7.12 60.

6/21/22

Positional Profile: 3B/OF
Body: 6-3, 205-pounds. Physical and mature build with present strength.
Delivery: Short and simple footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot. Smooth pace and rhtyhm to the delivery working to a high balance point. Strong weight stack onto the back leg with short push off the rubber into a firm plant leg.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot with a longer arm action.
FB: T82.3, 76-81 mph. Mostly straight shape with strong riding life thorugh the zone with strong spin. T2347, 2150 average rpm.
CB: 70-70 mph. Feel for spin with heavy sweeping action. T2257, 2203 average rpm.
SL: 69-70 mph. 9/3 shape with heavy horizontal break. T2184, 2088 average rpm.
CH: 75-76 mph. Heavy arm side fading action with fastball hand speed. T2032, 1928 average rpm.

Positional Profile: 3B/OF
Body: 6-3, 205-pounds. Physical and mature build with present strength.
Hits: RHH. Starts with a slightly open stance and athletic posture. Hands float back into position with slow loading weight into the back leg. Quick hands through the zone with strong overall bat speed. Rotational path with the hands with a strong top hand finish. Uphill bat path and tries to work the ball up in the air. Utilizes the lower half well to work underneath the ball to help match plane.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 92.4 MPH. 366' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph.3/4 arm slot with hand working acorss the chest at release.
Defense: Shows feel for routes working around the ball with smooth rhythm. Plays unerneath the ball well and shows strong glove action and soft hands. Fields the ball on the move well.
Run: 7.12 runner in the 60.
