At the PBR Florida Preseason Classic a month ago, RHP Mason Denaburg (Merritt Island HS, FL), RHP Carter Stewart (Eau Gallie HS, FL) and others attracted an enormous crowd of scouts. They pitched in back-to-back games as part of an electric night. Last week, the scouts were out again en masse, but this time the two were facing off in a district matchup.

Stewart mostly dominated for five innings, striking out eight in the first three innings and allowing a run on a triple from Denaburg and wild pitch. Stewart’s fastball was working 93-95 mph and showing more life, getting swings and misses. He allowed another run on a passed ball strikeout, error and a couple singles, but he stranded the bases loaded on two strikeouts and a weak comebacker. To go with the plus fastball, Stewart had his usual plus curveball sitting at 79-81.
