For college programs, recruiting is never done and moves at a breakneck pace. While many of the top juniors in the country have made verbal commitments, there is still plenty of talent still out there. At the same time, it’s not a bad thing to be uncommitted as an underclassman. Last week, we took a look at uncommitted 2018 pitchers. This week, we focus on junior catchers still experiencing the process. These backstops have the potential of contributing at the college level.

Tony Barreca, C, North Scott HS, IA
The No. 12 prospect in Iowa’s 2018 class, Barreca has an athletic, compact frame at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds. He’s a versatile player, running a 7.2 60 while throwing 86 mph from the outfield and 76 from the crouch with a 2.01 pop time. He hits with a square stance and doesn’t stride. He has quick hands and is slightly uphill with his path, showing occasional shortness through the zone. His mechanics behind the plate are efficient and he has a clean exchange, quick release and accurate throws.
