PBR Mailbag: Talking Keegan Baar (MI) And T.J. Collett (IN)

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

We’re less than a month away from the draft and the postseason is upon us in many states. There are even several prospects who have played in their last high school game including RHPs Tyler Kolek (Shepherd HS, TX), Cobi Johnson (Mitchell HS, FL), Sean Reid-Foley (Sandalwood HS, FL) and Grant Holmes (Conway HS, SC); SSs Nick Gordon (Olympia HS, FL) and Milton Ramos (American Heritage HS, FL); and 3B Michael Chavis (Sprayberry HS, GA).

I took a trip to Ohio last week to see RHP/1B Zack Shannon (Anderson HS, OH) and RHP Cameron Varga (Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH), which you can read about in The Rode Report and I’ll have a little more on Varga later. I’m heading back to my home state of Virginia this week to see RHP Jacob Bukauskas (Stone Bridge HS, VA) and LHP Nick Wells (Battlefield HS, VA). Bukauskas has pitched in the mid 90s this spring after reclassifying to become a 2014, but he recently sent a letter to scouts saying he would honor his commitment to North Carolina and asked them not to draft him. Wells, a College of Charleston recruit, came out of the gates strong, pitching in the low 90s and looked like an early-round prospect. He has dropped off lately, but still warrants a look.

It’s Monday so let’s get to your questions…

Are any pitchers from the Grand Rapids area looking at getting drafted?
Located about 15 miles southwest of downtown Grand Rapids, MI, Hudsonville HS arguably has the marquee prospect for the state of Michigan in this year's draft class.
