The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2025 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 7

Rod Davis Jr. RHP / FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 The Holmes CC recruit threw 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 unearned run, with 10 strikeouts in a win over South Jones.

Jackson Meehan SS / RHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2026 The USM recruit threw a complete game (7 inning) shutout, allowing 2 hits, with 14 strikeouts in the Cougars win over Pearl.

Jackson Clark LHP / Brandon , MS / 2025 The East Central CC recruit threw 7 innings, scattering 4 hits, allowing 1 run, with 13 strikeouts In a win over Petal.

Micah Coutta LHP / OF / South Jones, MS / 2025 The Jones College recruit threw a complete game shutout, allowing 4 hits, 0 earned runs, with 9 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Florence.

Rush Watkins RHP / SS / Baldwyn, MS / 2027 The freshman threw a complete game shutout over Tupelo Christian, allowing, 3 hits, with 4 strikeouts.

Jarrett Thomas LHP / OF / Alcorn Central, MS / 2026 Thomas threw a complete game shutout, allowing 4 hits, with 10 strikeouts in a win over Falkner.

Drew Davis RHP / SS / Sumrall, MS / 2027 Davis earned our Pitcher of the Week honor as he threw a 7 inning no hitter with 14 strikeouts in a win over Columbia.

Bryan Davis / FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2026 Davis went 5 for 9 on the week with a double and 9 stolen bases out of the lead off spot for the Eagles.

Baylor Roberts SS / 2B / Saltillo , MS / 2025 The UAB recruit went 8 for 12 on the week with a home run, double, and 3 runs batted in.

Evan Summers LHP / OF / Itawamba Agricultural, MS / 2026 Summers went 5 for 8 with a home run, double, triple, and 7 runs batted in on the week for the Indians.

Kyron Murphy 2B / RHP / Sacred Heat, MS / 2025 Murphy went 4 for 7 with a double and 6 runs scored last week for the Crusaders.

Darren Brown OF / 3B / Sacred Heart, MS / 2025 Brown went 5 for 9 on the week with 5 runs batted in for the Crusaders.

Jameson Phillips OF / Sacred Heart, MS / 2027 Phillips picked up 3 doubles on the week with 2 runs batted in for the Crusaders.

Jackson Whitcomb SS / RHP / Lamar, MS / 2026 The Pearl River CC recruit went 6 for 8 on the week with 3 home runs, 3 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in. He also threw 5 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, with 4 strikeouts in a win over Wayne Academy.

Sullivan Reed 3B / 1B / Lamar, MS / 2027 Reed went 4 for 8 on the week with 2 home runs, a double, and 8 runs batted in. Reed also threw 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 0 earned runs, with 7 strikeouts.

Ty Herrington 3B / RHP / Lamar School, MS / 2025 The MS Gulf Coast CC recruit went 6 for 7 on the week with a home run, a double, and 3 runs batted in.

Preston Johnson RHP / Copiah Academy, MS / 2018 Johnson, a Northwest MS CC recruit, went 8 for 10 on the week with 3 doubles, a triple, 7 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in for the Tigers.

JD Whitaker RHP / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026 The Pearl River CC recruit went 4 for 7 on the week with a home run and 4 runs batted in for the Lions.

Tinnin Potts 3B / OF / CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 The uncommitted senior went 5 for 9 with 3 home runs, a double, and 7 runs batted in on the week for the Arrows.

Maximus Bates SS / 2B / Vancleave, MS / 2025 Bates went 8 for 12 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 runs batted in on the week for the Bulldogs.

Aiden Tapp 2B / Vancleave, MS / 2025 Tapp went 9 for 12 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 runs batted in for the Bulldogs last week.

Hunter Harper 1B / Vancleave High School, MS / 2025 Harper went 4 for 11 with a homerun and 8 runs batted in. He also threw 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits, 1 run, with 6 strikeouts.

Martin Shaw OF / Vancleave High School, MS / 2025 Shaw went 5 for 11 on the week with a double and 4 runs batted in for the Bulldogs.

Landon Stanley SS / New Site, MS / 2025 Stanley earned our Player of the Week honor as he went 7 for 10 with 3 doubles, a home run, and 12 runs batted in. He also threw 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 earned runs, with 15 strikeouts.

Claiborne Perry OF / Canton Academy, MS / 2025 The Holmes CC recruit went 7 for 9 with 1 double and 6 runs scored out of the lead off spot for the Panthers.

Conner Mitchell OF / Vancleave, MS / 2026 Mitchell went 5 for 8 on the week with 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 runs batted for the Bulldogs.
