#11 Charlotte Christian Rallies Past #21 Weddington for 11-6 Victory
Charlotte Christian School | Charlotte, NC | Tuesday March 4, 2025

However, Charlotte Christian's Jack Beard settled in on the mound, allowing his team’s offense to mount a comeback. The Knights took control late, with Cohen Bettencourt and Owen Farrell delivering back-to-back big hits in the sixth inning—a two-RBI double from Bettencourt followed by a two-run home run from Farrell—to seal the victory.

Cohen Bettencourt, C, Charlotte Christian, 2025
High Point Commit. The athletic backstop was a standout for Christian tonight. Did a good job of managing the game behind the plate when Weddington jumped out early. Behind the dish, he is a leader who receives well and is accurate with catch/throw. At the plate, bat speed is present. With added strength there is some power potential. Bettencourt went 2-4 with a double and 2RBI.
Jack Beard, RHP, Charlotte Christian, 2026
The 3/4 slot righty had the pressure of baserunners due to some wind-driven flyball hits and timely hitting from Weddington. Beard held strong through 5 innings of work striking out 6 and allowing 3 runs. He paired two fastballs with a slider for some big outs. Has a fastball that possesses heavy arm side run, and the other is a sinker with downward action. Both fastballs sit in the 84-87 range throughout the entirety of his outing. Slider has 10-3 movement profile at 74-77.
James Yanz, OF, Weddington, 2025
Yanz was the spark plug for the Weddington offense this evening. Went 3-4 with a 2-run HR and stole a bag. Has been a consistent, early threat for the Weddington offense. Super athletic, hard-nosed player.
Owen Farrell, Charlotte Christian, 2025
Charleston Southern (Football). After striking out his first two ABs, Farrell had an INF single that netted a run, and a 2-run HR that put the stamp on this game. Farrell is a strong build, that rotates very well. Bat speed is present. Better swing decisions could lead to a powerful Senior campaign.
Max Luzarraga, RHP, Weddington, 2025
Dallas Baptist commit. After seeing Luzarraga last week, there was a complete 180 on how he began the game. Of the first 9 batters of the game, he struck 7 hitters out. Early fastball velocity sat 89-91, topping at 93. Settled at 87-90 for the duration of his outing. The breaking ball showed more command with the ability to land for strikes second time through the lineup. Curveball shape was 11-5 in the range of 79-82.
Derek Vasquez, SS, Charlotte Christian, 2028
Athletic, good frame, moves well, runs well, throws well, plays SS, hits leadoff, hits left handed, understands the game. Will be a fun young player to follow over the coming years. High follow. Circle the name. Go watch him play, it is fun.
