2014 Unsigned Senior Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

The 2nd Annual Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on October 18. A number of solid performances were turned in with catcher Logan Snyder (Lakeview) taking home top prospect honors. Over the course of the next week we will take a look at each of the prospects in attendance by position. Today we being our review by analyzing the middle infielders.

2014 unsigned senior showcase: middle infield analysis
Justin Kratz, SS/2B, William Allen HS, PA (2015)
Kratz is a 6-foot, 175-pound middle infielder that showcased strong barrel whip and good balance to his swing from a high hands load. The right-handed hitter flashed some pop and the ability to drive the baseball to all fields during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph. Kratz was equally as impressive defensively, showing a soft glove hand and more than enough arm strength (85 mph) to remain on the left side of the infield at the next level. He displayed an accurate arm, a quick release and the ability to make plays form several arm angles. Kratz completed his day by running a 7.31 60-yard dash.
Trevor Route, 2B/SS, Canton HS, PA (2015)
Route is fundamentally sound defensively with a sure glove and an accurate 72 mph arm. The 5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitter ran a 7.60 60-yard dash and showcased a 78 mph bat exit velocity from the right side of the plate. Route starts from a square stance offensively and utilizes a toe tap stride for rhythm. The senior barreled the baseball frequently during his round of batting practice while flashing the ability to use all fields equally well.
