Tennessee Preseason All-State Upperclass: Quick Hits - Pitchers

Hunter Martin
Tennessee Scouting Director

GALLATIN, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Preseason All-State: Upperclass was held on Saturday, February 9th at Liberty Creek HS. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan during a bullpen setting. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for the event, we take a look at the some of the standouts from the event. Please be sure to continue to check back as we release other leaderboards from the event, along with the scouting reports on all players in attendance.

QUICK HITS: Pitchers

2025's --

Jordan Jewell RHP / 2B / Lebanon High School, TN / 2025

Jewell was someone that we saw last year a bit at Lebanon and he looks much stronger and efficient in the delivery.  Measuring in at 5-foot-11 and 226 pounds, Jewell carries a strong base that should be able to handle more velocity as he gets into his college years. The uncommitted senior had a really impressive showing at PAS where he worked the fastball 88-89 with both ASR and hop, while also showing the ability to command the lower quadrant of the zone. The slider shows real sweeper shape at 74-77 mph carrying 8 inches of average HZM with only 1.6 inches of average depth on the shape. The changeup shows real bite with late tumble to the arm side at 75-80 mph. Showed some issues with release point with that pitch but shows promise for feel of three separate shapes. I really like the calmness in the motion with a late explosion down the mound. Should get a lot of attention this spring where he looks like he will work into the 90-91 mph range at times. Solid pickup for a team looking for a last minute arm.

Bennett Gammon LHP / OF / Smith County, TN / 2025

The senior uncommitted prospect is someone that we have seen progress over the last two years and looks to be the most physical he has ever been at 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds. The Senior Future Game participant had some D1 opportunities this summer but struggled with command at times with the fastball and secondary offerings. However, the mechanics look cleaner, while showing the ability to locate over the plate more frequently. The arm looked cleaner with a smoother turnover of the hips where he worked the fastball 86-87 mph, while touching 88 mph. The fastball comes with a great overall shape carrying 18 inches of hop with 2100-2200 rpm’s. The slider also looked much more effective and will be a real weapon to LHH’s where it came in at 77-78 mph with a short dart action. The changeup is the best offering at 79-80 mph with killed spin in the 1500 rpm range generating late tumble with present feel for his release point. Shows the ability to throw in advantage and disadvantage counts. Gammon looks like he has taken the next step in his over development and will be a great addition for a club looking to take on a lefty with upside.

2026's --

Cade Allen RHP / 1B / South Gibson, TN / 2026

Allen is someone that we have really loved following over the last two and a half years. Coming off an incredible summer that culminated in him committing to the University of Tennessee, Allen is steady on pace to continue as the number one overall right-handed pitcher in the 2026 class of Tennessee. Gearing up for about 60 innings going into his junior year, Allen has packed on about 15 pounds where he measured in at 6 foot 1, 208 pounds. If he wasn’t so good at pitching, Allen would probably be committed to a smaller school as a two-way prospect with real tangible tools, coming in as a complete baseball player. He would finish with a 99 mph max EV with an absurd 95.5 avg EV. He would go on to produce a robust 82% sweet spot percentage to go with a 73% line-drive rate. However, Allen’s greatest upside is on the mound where he comes down hill with intimidating force. The arm is loose with late extension. The fastball comes in with 18 inches of average IVB at 90-92 mph at 2300 RPM’s. He also has feel for locating the offering down in the zone to both sides of the plate with present ability to get ahead of hitters. The slider shows both depth and sweep at 75-79 mph that he will use to both LHH and RHH. The changeup is a serious weapon that he will throw to both RHH/LHH as well, coming in at 81-84, albeit a little on the higher side in terms of spin. Allen may be the best pure arm in the state of TN regardless of class at this point. He heads into his junior season with a lot of recognition but he handles that extremely well. One of my favorite arms and makeup.

Quinn Showalter RHP / 1B / St. George's, TN / 2026

Showalter was someone that we have been extremely bullish on over the last year and we continue to see the development in the profile and ability. The former Prep Baseball Tennessee Future Game alum comes in a lot more sturdy at PAS where he measured in 30 pounds heavier from the summer at 6-foot 4, 240-pounds. Already has present strength with a proportional build with a strong base in the lower half. Showalter does a great job of staying tall through delivery with a high ¾ arm slot that produces easy arm speed. He would sit 92-94 mph with the fastball carrying heavy sink that plays into RHH’s and produces a lot of weak contact when down in the zone. The slider shows real sweeping action at 79-80 mph with 16.6 inches of average HZM on the 1 inch vertical axis. Changeup worked 79-82 mph with late tumble. Shows an understanding of a true three-pitch mix that carries solid shape on both the slider and changeup. Also looked impressive during the positional portion of the event where he carries stacked shoulders with force from the right-side of the plate hitting. Stayed long through contact working his energy up the middle without spinning off. Carried a 101 mph max EV with an absurd 94.5 mph avg EV. Shows two-way upside at the Power-4 level but obviously pitching remains his highest upside. The Duke commit is extremely young for the 2026 class, as he will be 16 years old his entire junior season. This will surely aid him down the line when it comes to the MLB draft, where he looks likely to generate some buzz out of high school.

Jameson Napper LHP / OF / Grace Christian Academy, TN / 2026

Napper is another guy that we have followed closely over the last two years. This was our first time getting him at an event and he did not disappoint on the mound, especially on the Trackman. The Vanderbilt commit comes in much heavier than we have seen him previously where he measured 15 pounds heavier at 200 pounds in the 5-foot-11 frame. He carries thickness in the lower half and trunk that allows him to rotate extremely efficiently with force. He had a great day at the plate where he was up to 100 mph for his max EV from the left side with a mostly groundball approach off the barrel. He will be the 3-hole hitter this spring for Grace Christian as well as their ace on the bump, where he holds his highest ceiling. The ball jumps out of the hand at 91-92 T93 with both hop and late ASR. We have seen him a bit wild in the past and the key for him this season will be getting ahead and keeping his pitch count down. The slider shows a lot of promise carrying both depth and sweep to the shape, while being extremely effective to left-handed hitters. The changeup looks like it carries real promise at the next level where it comes in at 74-78 mph with 1500-1600 avg RPM’s. I think he could increase the velocity on this offering where it isn’t so much of a pitch speed difference but all in all, looks like he has the makings of 3 above-average pitches that should give him opportunities to start at the next level, but will need to learn to command the zone better over the next two seasons.

Nathan Powers RHP / Briarcrest, TN / 2026

Talk about a come up. Powers is definitely one to circle as he has taken major jumps since the summer where he was 84-85 mph. Coming in with just a massive frame at 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds, you would think he would be extremely stiff as a junior at that weight, however that is not the case. He showed exceptional arm speed, pairing with a synchronized power drive down the mound that he blocks pretty well at this point. The fastball worked 91-92 consistently, while topping 93 mph on his very last pitch. She slider has the makings of an above-average weapon 76-78 mph almost 12 inches of avg HZM with command of the lower-outside quadrant on this glove side. The CH shows a lot of potential with 10 mph of average speed difference and killed spin in the 1400-1500 rpm range. Powers was thoroughly impressive and will be someone we will have eyes on this spring where he looks to take a step up in the pitching hierarchy for the defending DII-2A state champions. He holds a lot of potential, yet is unproven. This spring could be huge for him, especially with college teams likely to be in attendance. He comes away from the Prep Baseball Tennessee Preseason All-State with a lot of forward momentum.

BURTON MOORE 3B / RHP / Columbia Central High School, TN / 2026

Coming off a stellar showing a week prior at the Nashville Preseason ID, Moore wanted to come back to really hit home how good he has gotten over the last two years. I had this to say in the previous article for Moore  “Athletic kid that is rising into his sophomore year. Showed present arm strength with low 80’s across the diamond from SS. Has solid feet and ability to control the lower half in athletic movements. Clean shapes to his actions that leads into a clean arm action. Potential may be on the mound as he sat 80-83 mph with the fastball, while touching 84. Solid ability to spin the pitch as he averages in the 2000’s RPM’s, while showing the ability to get into the high 2200 range. Flowed really nicely down the mound and again with control of his body exceptionally well. Had some of the best command with about 75% strikes being thrown, which bodes well for him pitching at a high level going forward. Fastball shows a lot of downward tilt that should work well down in the zone and will generate a lot of ground balls. Secondary offerings are not there yet with his fastball but offer potential as he gains understanding of wrist positioning and intent with offerings.” - Murfreesboro Open (July, 11th, 2023) – He has since grown about 4 inches in height to go with another 25 pounds over that span and he did not disappoint at the Nashville Preseason ID where he sat 87-89, some with 20 inches of vertical, while also clocking 90 mph on his last pitch of the evening. The uncommitted junior should be the number 2 this year for a strong Columbia Central team and we are excited to see him in game this spring. Someone to definitely keep an eye out on as the velocity looks like it will continue to climb with already established strike-throwing ability. – Well he decided to follow that up with an even better showing at the Tennessee Preseason All-State where he worked the fastball at 89-90 mph with an IMPRESSIVE 22.6 inches of average IVB at 2500 rpm’s making that one of the best fastball profiles in the class. I am high on Moore and think he carries the present upside to pitch at the D1 level. We will follow him closely this spring season.

Camden Huckaby RHP / 1B / Hardin Valley Academy, TN / 2026

The uncommitted Hardin Valley product comes in with a thick frame and every bit of 6-foot-3 and 243 pounds. Could stand to lean out a bit, which should allow him to access some more athleticism in the body as he currently is a little stiff in the hips on his turnover before lead foot plant. Carries some upside in the arm where he worked 85-87 mph on the heater with a lot of boar (16.5 in. of avg IVB with 14.5 in. of avg HZM) with solid command of the plate. The CB looks decent at 67-69 mph but lacks total overall spin but is currently good enough to get high school hitters out. Strong feel for the CH at 71-73 mph with late fade and ASR carrying 17 inches of avg HZM. Should be a big part of Hardin Valley again this year where we will be out to see him.

Jayden Gaylor RHP / SS / Rossview, TN / 2026

Gaylor may have been one of my favorite arms coming away from PAS. I like the way the body works and I think he can hold a lot more velocity in the coming years. Shows a methodical approach down the mound where he isn’t chasing velocity with the body and pulling off on his pitches. At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Gaylor should hold more weight in the profile when he gets to his college years and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is sitting 90-92 mph by then. The fastball comes in from a lower 3/4 arm-slot working 87-88 with both sink and ASR. The CB shows a lot of promise at 2500 rpm with both depth and sweep, while also showcasing a SL at 72-74 with 13 inches of average HZM. The CH also works as a weapon to LHH’s where he sat 79-80 mph with fade at 1500 rpm’s. Showed distinct pitch shapes on Trackman with the ability to be around the zone. Rossview is another one of those teams that look to be in the mix come May for the state tournament and Gaylor could be a big part of that. He is someone to circle and someone that we will get more eyes on this spring.

Aiden Oppenheimer RHP / OF / Nolensville, TN / 2026

Oppenheimer is new to us as he just moved into Tennessee this past fall and we were eager to get an official look at the right-hander. Came in with a physical look that holds current muscle, especially in the lower half and shoulders, where he measured in at 6-foot and 173 pounds. Longer arm action works low as he creates glove separation. Over-the-top arm action with present heat on the fastball. Fastball worked 87-89 mph, topping 90 mph twice with an insane 20 inches of avg IVB at 2200-2300 rpm’s. Showed decent break on the curveball at 75-78 mph that carried quality spin (2300-2400 rpm range). I really liked the changeup that worked with some late tail with heavy 18 inches of HZM at 78-81 mph. Should be able easily pronate the palm with the arm-action with 3 pitches that work at the high school level. Looks to factor into the best high school pitching staff in the state of Tennessee this season where he should spot start and close during district play. Left us intrigued after our very first look and he will be someone that we follow-along this spring.

Will Beasley RHP / 3B / Houston, TN / 2026

Beasley was someone that we saw once last spring covering Houston HS and was impressed with the demeanor and pitchability in-game. Clean arm-action from a direct hip led path down the mound. Lands linear to the plate with stacked shoulders for downhill plane on his offerings. Worked the FB 84-86 mph with sinking action. Displayed feel for a curveball at 75-76 mph, carrying both depth and sweep. Worked a changeup at 78-79 mph with killed spin in the 1500-1600 range that carried ideal HZM at almost 13 inches. Should see increased innings this year and will be relied on in a stacked 4A district.

Ryan Edwards SS / RHP / Webb, TN / 2026

The Webb HS showcased multiple attributes at PAS in both the offensive and pitching side. Measuring in at 5-foot-11 and 176 pounds, Edwards looks likely to continue to fill out as he is far away from full maturity. The fastball worked 83-84 mph with some late ASR and feel for being around the plate. The best offering looks to be his breaking-balls, where he offers two distinct shapes with real advanced traits for the age. His curveball worked 69-70 mph with 10.6 inches of average IVB with 14.4 inches of average sweep with 2500-2600 rpm’s, making it an absolute wipeout offering. The SL also worked 72-75 mph 2500-2600 rpm’s with a true sweeping action on the vertical plane carrying 8.6 inches of average HZM and feel for the strikezone. Overall I really liked the secondary offerings and if he can continue to raise his velocity, he will give himself some legit opportunities on the recruiting side.

Bradley Stubbs RHP / SS / Collierville, TN / 2026

Stubbs comes in extremely wiry at 6-foot and 157 pounds. The lean frame works well with the ability to bend that carries some real flexibility down the mound. Doubles as a MIF and you can see the footwork transition over to the mound. The fastball looked good where he sat 84-85 mph with 18 inches of avg hop with a low release point. The CB sat 73-74 mph with solid spin (2500-2600) with both depth and sweep to the offering and showed the ability to consistently rip the pitch from the same release point. I am a big fan of his FB/BB combo as he tunnels both well out of the same slot. Drops down a bit on the CH to generate ASR and most high school aged players won’t notice it, but could look to throw that pitch from the same arm-slot as the BB and FB. Should be a high leverage relief pitcher for Collierville this spring, where they also have a realistic chance to hoist the 4A championship trophy come May.

Caleb Lear RHP / 3B / Pro5 Academy, TN / 2026

Lear pitched a lot last spring for Brentwood High School but takes a different route this spring where he will be pitching for the newly founded Pro5 Academy. I am not sure how much we will see Lear this spring, as we may not see him again until this spring but I do like the frame and how he works down the mound. At 6-foot and 200-pounds, Lear carries present strength in the profile for just being a junior in HS. Worked the fastball 86-87 mph, while topping 88 a handful of times. Easy downhill actions with repeatable mechanics. Lived around the strike zone with multiple pitches. Two separate shapes on the breaking balls with potential, albeit with present misfire. The changeup works well and showed ability to stay inside the offering down the mound with the ability to locate arm-side. Should hold more velocity in the future.

Cooper Nebben SS / RHP / Clarksville, TN / 2026

The uncommitted junior RHP has been a staple arm for a strong Clarksville team over the last year, and likely due to get increased innings as he steps into his junior season. Extremely wiry at 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds. The frame alone should be able to hold another 20 pounds over the course of the next two years. The body works well down the mound, where he sits strongly into his backside, while also maintaining forward drift. The fastball worked 84-87 mph with present straight line vertical on the fastball. Shows present feel for two distinct breaking-balls with a CB at 70-72 mph (10.6 inches of avg IVB with 7 inches of avg HZM) while the SL works a tad bit harder with (7 inches of avg HZM with only -3 IVB) It would likely do him some good to see a steeper difference in velocities but the shapes are there on those pitches. Also worked a CH at 76-78 with 1600 rpms. Shows some upside and if he can attack the zone like he did at PAS, watch out because he could have an incredible season with a hungry team talented enough to win it all in 4A.

GARRETT CYPHERS RHP / Brentwood Academy, TN / 2026

Cypers is someone that we have watched quite a bit over the last year where he has been a staple in the Brentwood Academy rotation. Cyphers is super flexible with whippy actions down the mound. I am a huge fan of the way the body works as he creates ideal arm/hip separation with lag behind the body. The only knock on Cypers is he is prone to misfire and works his pitch count up too often. He has a lot of upside in a wiry frame at 6-foot and 170 pounds. The fastball carries natural zip at 87-88 mph with 2300-2500 rpm’s with carry to the arm-side. He also shows two separate quality shape breaking-balls with a power curveball at 78-81 mph with 2400-2600 rpm’s that showed 8 inches of average IVB to go with 17.6 inches of average HZM. The SL is actually slower with sweeping plane action at 76-77 mph with 12 inches of avg HZM on the -2 inch vertical line. Ideally, you want him to increase the spin rate on that offering (2100-2200) for some devastating off-speed pitches to both LHH/RHH. Will pitch a lot of innings this spring and again, if he can find the strike zone with the fastball at a more consistent rate, should have a lot of suitors interested in him with the projection that he comes with.

Grant Gentry OF / RHP / Providence Academy, TN / 2026

The Providence Academy (Johnson, City) uncommitted junior showed some ability on the mound at PAS where he came in at 6-foot and 180 pounds. The fastball look crisp at 83-86 mph, while topping 87 mph. Showed the presence of a slider at 76-79 mph with 2400-2500 rpm’s that worked short with a dart action. Attacked the zone consistently with some cross-fire action that should be able to work away from RHH’s. Was a part of the pitching staff that helped Providence Academy make it to the state championship game last spring. He should see an increased role this spring in terms of innings and game situations. Short arm-action with repeatable mechanics down the mound. Showed 88-90 mph from the outfield, so he should be in line for increased velocity as he progressed.

Hayden Hupka RHP / 1B / Nolensville, TN / 2026

Hupka comes into his junior year with a lot more physically as you can clearly see he has been living in the weight room where he has packed on a ton of good mass. We have seen his fastball velocity tick up from the low 80’s to sitting 85-86 mph with a few 87 mph sprinkled in. Showed good feel for the strike-zone, attacking both glove side and arm-side. Showed sweeping action with feel for the release point on the slider at 75-77 mph. Also showed present feel for a changeup, working it at 80-81 mph, where it had late fading action, with a ridiculous amount of killed spin (1300). Hupka may be hard to get in the district rotation this spring with pitching on the best pitching staff in the entire state (Nolensville HS) but looks like he will fill a lot of different roles this spring for a club that has all the pieces to make a state championship run yet again.

Case Collins RHP / 3B / Lebanon, TN / 2026

Collins shows some real projection in the profile at 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds. Wiry build that lacks a lot of total overall strength. Shows some present athletic ability with flexibility in the back and trunk  to bend. Worked his fastball 84-85 mph with 15 inches of average hop to go with some late arm-side tail. 12/6 action on the curveball at 71-72 mph that should generate swing and miss at the high school level. The best offering looks to be his slider that he rips up to 2600 rpm’s at 75-76 mph that carries both depth and sweep. Should be a staple in the Lebanon high school rotation this season and projects for more to come as he matures into the frame.
