With the fresh legs that the early part of summer allows, some underclass catchers have been excellent in May/June, and look the part of backstops who can handle a staff at the next level. On the Hunt highlights 6 underclass catchers from New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas with above average defensive skills and projectable bats and frames that college coaches will want to follow. Be on the lookout for more prospect news coming out of the NJ/OH events in the next few days as there were many players who left an impact on my visits.

Ben Dukes C / OF / Houston Memorial, TX / 2020Dukes has the skill and athleticism to be an impact player at the next level, and will be pursued by recruiters all over the country. Just a 2020, 5-foot-11, 160-pounder runs a 6.96 60-yard dash, produces pop times under 1.9, and showcases a balanced, left-handed stroke that features quick hands and lag in the zone. Still maturing, there is much more to come for Dukes’ frame, and his uphill plane will allow him to see increased power production as more strength arrives. Overall, Dukes has a chance to be a premium prospect as he already showcases a sweet stroke, and advanced tools behind the plate.
