This week we had multiple match-ups that provided great looks at some high level arm talent as well as several uncommitted hitters who excelled. Starting with a SPSL matchup between visiting Sumner and host Curtis and then on Thursday we took in some WESCO action with a rainy matchup between Kamiak and Lake Stevens.

Sumner at Curtis

Sumner

27 OF/RHP Wyatt Plyler (Sumner)
The explosive 2-way prospect was a big standout in the preseason and heads into the spring with lofty expectations. A do-it-all athlete on the diamond, we were able to catch Plyler grab a start on the mound on this look. Battled to find his groove with some mixed results on the FB command as he walked 5 in 3 innings but also punched out 5 and only allowed 1 hit. After surrendering 1 ER in T1, he went 2 scoreless after that and finished with 3 total innings. Velocity ranged 84-89 and topped at 90. Showed willingness to use both CB (72-75) and CH (79-80) and attacked hitters with a steady mix. CB showed 11/5 shape and generated consistent swing and miss when he stayed on top of the ball. Offensively Plyler only had 1 AB to work with and he went after the only pitch he saw for an oppo single through the ¾ hole. While there’s ample arm talent on the bump and things are relatively clean for him mechanically, the upside as a position player is what we’re highest on long-term for Plyler. Even in a small sample size, he physically looks much different than his fellow competitors at the HS level and everything he does has a different gear that very few players can match.

‘25 LHP Ryder Peterson (Sumner)
Peterson was exceptional in relief as he pitched 3 hitless innings with 2 BB and 4 K. Fits the mold of your classic, pitchability lefty who excels with a deceptive FB and quality breaking ball. Working from a lower ¾ slot, he gets ride and carry into the zone at 79-81 and stays behind the ball well. FB life plays best in the upper half of the zone and it’s tough for hitters to stay on top of the ball. His low 70s sweeping SL is exceptionally tough against left-handed batters and he generated a lot of ugly swings with  the breaking ball when matched up against hitters on his arm-side. Pitches with some moxie and a competitive demeanor and should be a dependable Senior arm throughout the spring. Whitman commit.

‘27 C/1B Elijah Prunty (Sumner)
The physical left-handed bat was another prospect who caught our attention at a Preseason ID and established himself as a name to watch this spring. Prunty had the only XBH on the day when he lined a ball down the LF line with 2 strikes for an oppo double. The swing path stays tight to his core & he keeps his hands inside of the ball, allowing him to still make flush contact deep into the zone. Hits from a wide base and keeps the load/stride tight which allows the barrel to work freely and he creates quality bat speed in a tight window. Flashed a quality eye at the plate with strike zone discipline. Uncommitted.

‘27 OF Bryce Carl (Sumner)
Carl went 1-3 in the leadoff spot for the Spartans. On a day where it was tough for anyone to generate offense, he stood out in the Top of the 6th with his hard single up the middle. Hits from a wider set-up with a controlled leg lift to gather. Hands stay back beyond rear shoulder with a tight, quick load before he triggers his swing. Strong bodied athlete.

Curtis

‘27 RHP/OF Cooper Hordyk (Curtis)
Hordyk put together one of the more dominant and effective outings we’ve seen in the early part of the season so far. Fired a complete game shutout with a final line of 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K on 88 pitches and 63 strikes. Only faced 3 batters over the minimum. Pitching exclusively from the stretch, Hordyk keeps everything simple with a low effort delivery, short arm action & consistent direction towards his target. FB worked 81-84 and topped at 85. He commands to all parts of the zone and get some added deception with his tighter arm action. Spins CB at 71-75 with ability to land for a strike or expand when ahead. CH gives him a legit 3rd offering at 72-74 and he really kills the spin causing significant late tumble and a big speed differential. Overall he competes with a calm demeanor and is a very poised presence on the bump. While he didn’t have anything to show in the box score offensively, he put together 2 of the best swings we saw on the day. Pulled the hands in nicely and squared up a ball to deep LF for a loud fly out that pushed LF back. Then followed that up with another deep fly ball, this one to RF but it was tracked down on the run. Impressive and complete day from the uncommitted rising sophomore.

‘25 SS Parker Mady (Curtis)
Mady led off the game with a single and that would turn out to be the only hit produced from the Vikings on the day. After a BB and wild pitch, Mady was able to get to 3rd and eventually scored the lone run of the game which ultimately led to a victory. Athletically, Mady moves extremely well with great 1st step quickness and easy acceleration. There’s strength throughout the frame and he flashed quick, powerful hands in the swing. Division 2 football commit is a standout athlete in the middle of the diamond.

‘26 C Joe Giles (Curtis)
Brought home the only run of the game in the top of the 1st with a well struck ball to CF for a sac fly. Despite the lack of offense on the day, it was clear to see in his ABs that Giles has a mature approach at the plate and a strong understanding of the zone. Finished 0-1 with a BB and consistently looked as if he was ready to get quality swings off. Controlled the game well defensively at C and stayed in great rhythm with Hordyk throughout the day as a highly efficient battery. Uncommitted.

Kamiak vs Lake Stevens

Kamiak

‘25 LHP Andrew Hernandez (Kamiak)
Hernandez showed some maturity and toughness on this look as he battled through cold and often wet conditions against a potent Lake Stevens lineup. Finished the day with a final line of 3 IP, 4 H, ER, 4 BB, 2 K. Showed a 3 pitch mix with FB/CB/CH and maintained a steady mix throughout. CH especially was effective at times vs aggressive RH hitters. FB worked 79-81 and he worked to all quadrants of the zone. Kept his team in the game early in this one and really did a nice job navigating early traffic on the bases when the game could have gotten out of hand. Uncommitted.

‘25 3B Elijah Bovey (Kamiak)
Finished the day 2-3 with a R & RBI from the leadoff spot. Lean, athletic trim with solid INF actions on defense. Kamiak didn’t generate a ton of offense in this one with only 4 total hits but Bovey’s hard line drive single up the middle in the 3rd inning helped set them up to push across 4 runs in the frame and sparked the rest of the lineup. Edmonds commit

‘27 OF Maddux Phimmasane (Kamiak)
Went 1-2 on the day with a 2B, 2 RBI and BB. Ambushed a 1st pitch FB with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning and ripped a 2 RBI double into deep LCF to give Kamiak a brief lead and get momentum back into their dugout. Strong bodied athlete hits from a wide base with a short forward move. Hands/wrists show strength at point of contact and he’s an intriguing bat to keep an eye on this spring.

Lake Stevens

‘26 LHP Manny McLaurin (Lake Stevens)
The talented 6’3 lefty showed off the potential across 5 solid innings of work in less than ideal conditions. McLaurin was an intriguing performer in the preseason back this winter when he showed a live arm and exciting stuff at an indoor bullpen. Overall he delivered a strong performance while dealing with a few hiccups in command on the day. Finished with a final line of 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 8 K. Pitched with the FB at 83-85, topping at 86 from an extreme angle coming from the far 1st base side of the rubber. SL is an above average pitch with big shape and tight spin at 74-76. Exceptionally tough on LHH and that really had no chance against the breaking ball. Ch is a viable 3rd offering at 78-79 and can be tough on RHH. Overall there’s big upside with the arm talent and projectability and if McLaurin can add some strength he should be able to control his long levers a bit more consistently and ascend as one of the better arms in the class. Uncommitted.

Overall, the Lake Stevens offense was clicking in this one throughout as they collected 15 hits and scored 14 runs in only 5 innings. All 9 starters recorded a hit with 4 players having multi-hit days.

‘26 OF Seth Danielson (Lake Stevens)
Set the tone from the leadoff spot and got things going early with a leadoff single to start the game while eventually coming around to score the first run of the day. Finished 2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB. Athletically has a sturdy, compact frame with a strong lower half and short levers in the swing. Gets added leverage from a strong front side and a high, uphill finish in the swing. Uncommitted.

‘25 OF Julian Wilson (Kamiak)
One of the more physical position players in the class at 6’2, 185. Wilson has a next level frame and exciting upside with his left-handed bat. Didn’t get a ton of strikes to offer at on this look, finishing 1-2, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB on the day. But when he did connect for a single it was a firm line drive that exploded off the barrel. Hits from an extra wide base and keeps weight mostly centered throughout. More of a level, flat path through the zone with ability to lift if he catches the ball out front. Strong profile as a L/L power hitting OF prospect. Everett CC commit.

‘25 SS Aspen Alexander (Lake Stevens)
Fits the mold of a blue collar ‘ballplayer’. Carries himself with quiet confidence & exudes leadership through his actions. Athletically he has a great combination of quickness & strength with the size to be a power threat as well. Took quality swings across all of his ABs and consistently showed a keen eye and disciplined approach. His line drive RBI single in the 4th came in a big moment for the offense and helped continue a massive 10 run inning. There’s plenty of bat speed and he stays short, tight to the ball with a balanced swing. Defensively he can stick at SS but has the aptitude to handle several spots on the diamond. Grand Canyon commit.

A trio of uncommitted underclassmen also had multi-hit days for the Vikings and really add to the depth of talent in this line-up. '26 Josh Bouley, '26 Dylan Phinney and '27 Cayden DeElena all swung it well on this look and consistenty put together quality ABs. It'll be very difficult for opposing arms to pitch around the 'big' bats in the middle of the line-up when all of the pieces are clicking.
