Scouting Report
7/11/18 Defensively, shows soft, confident hands in consistently funnelling from bottom up and out front. Spearen uses feet to create optimal hops and angles. Transfer is clean. Spearen would benefit from consistently gaining ground on throws across diamond and quickening arm stroke to allow arm strength to play up.
Offensively, the 5-foot-8 right-handed hitter initiates swing from open set up with stride to neutral. Separation is adequate. Weight shift and hip turn are aggressive. Bat path is flat and barrel feel was present in consistently squaring ball during round of BP. A bat exit velocity of 73 mph was registered.
7/12/17 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitter initiates swing from slightly open stance and utilizes short stride to neutral. Athleticism and feel for barrel allow consistent, solid contact. There is some hip sway and backside collapse resulting in uphill swing path. Spearen would benefit from maintaining posture and rotating around a firmer front side.
Defensively, demonstrates good hands, good feet and confidence in creating angles. Transfers are clean but throwing motion is a bit long.
