ATLANTA—This past weekend, the Braves and Yankees scouting departments hosted prospects at SunTrust Park for the inaugural Prospect World Series. Split into two teams, mostly from the East Coast, players participated in batting practice, infield/outfield and three games, while also receiving classroom instruction on various topics like the draft process and scholarship program. On the field, hitters remained in the box after their first walk and pitchers never had more than five or six plate appearances against them in a given inning.

Here are some highlights from the weekend…

+ RHP Brennan Malone (IMG Academy, FL) was the top prospect in attendance and the first arm out of the chute, toeing the rubber for the Braves. He was a little scattered at first, as his delivery was out of sync, and he started out with a couple walks, but escaped with a fielder’s choice, caught stealing and strikeout. He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in his second inning and struck out one more. His fastball was 91-94 mph while mixing in a hard slider at 78-80 and a curveball at 73-75.
