NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - We applaud all the teams for their efforts to get in games each week as the skies continue to pour rain on the region. As the season is slowly moving along, some of the teams are separating themselves from the pack, in their own regions, sections, and statewide. One such team has been Cardinal Newman HS (Santa Rosa, CA), which is off to a 8-0 start (#21 in PBR CA Power 25) following their section championship last season.

This week we have chosen one of their top players for the honor of Northern California Player of the Week (March 20-25), senior outfielder Anane Wilson. The Cardinals went 2-0 during the week and in one of those games, Wilson was a one man wrecking crew with the bat and also flashed his defensive prowess.

Against College Park HS on 3/23/23, Wilson was 4-for-4, with a pair of home runs, two singles, 4 RBI, 3 R, a walk and for good measure an outfield assist, as CNHS won a slugfest 11-7. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Wilson led off with a solo home run. In his second at-bat of the inning he blasted a 3-R homer to cap an eight run inning for the home squad. In the game he accounted for 10 total bases. It's a deep and experienced team but when they are going at their best, Wilson is usually right in the middle of the action.
