The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we wind down the '23 calendar and look towards the start of the '24 CIF High School baseball season by taking a look at some of the top uncommitted class of '24 athletes. This group of players is pulled directly from our '24 Rankings. They remain as the top players left on the board going into the start of their senior seasons.

All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on '24 SS Thomas Carney a LH hitter out of St. Augustine High School in San Diego. The 5'9 175 lbs. compact framed prospect shows a solid all around tool set. At the plate he features good use of the lower half and balance in his swing with a bat path that generates leverage through the middle of the field and shows power to the pull side. Feet are quick on the dirt with rhythm and range. Hands work with a quick transfer and his throws are accurate with average arm strength. There is potential to stick at SS, but can move off to 2B or even 3B to allow his LH bat to get in the lineup. An average athlete who runs a 7.1 60 with average burst at 1.72 in the 10 yard sprint. Solid LH hitting MIF prospect out of a baseball hotbed in San Diego who would be a good land for a college program.

Positional Profile: SS/2B Carney's balanced swing and overall versatility as an athlete allows him to fit in anywhere on the field.
Body: 5-9, 162-pounds. Lean build with plenty of muscle in the legs.
Hit: LHH. Upright setup with hands back at the shoulder. Slight crouch with weight shifted back. Gets barrel on plane quickly; knob to ball approach; manipulates barrel plane well. 67.1 mph bat speed with 15 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 80.7 mph. 324' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. Strong, accuate arm that flash carry. Can make throws from all angles.
Defense: Strong fielder with quick first step; reads ball off the bat very well; instinctive defender.
ATH: 7.17 runner in the 60. 1.78 and 4.01 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
