Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns as we are ramping into full scale regular season mode with the  2025 CIF High School baseball underway for the '25 class as they look to close their high school careers with a bang. With than in mind Prep Baseball California is highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '25 athletes for college programs to be following come this spring. The player featured today has been a standout on the Prep Baseball California event platform including most recently the 2025 Prep Baseball California NorCal Preseason All State.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a talented uncommitted product in the 2025 class in NorCal '25 INF/RHP Kael Lumbert from Del Oro High School in Loomis, Calif.. During is Jr. campaign for the Golden Eagles Lumbert showed flashes of his potential as both a hitter and a pitcher. On the bump is where he found his most success in 2024 posting a 2.67 ERA over nine appearances and six starts. In that stretch he threw 39.1 innings while striking out 30 hitters. Offensively, he contributed to the Del Oro program with 17 hits of which seven of those went for extra bases with six doubles and one triple. In addition, he drove in seven runs while scoring nine himself, plus eight stolen bases.

During his appearances at both the 2024 NorCal Uncommitted Game and the 2025 NorCal Preseason All State he has shown well on the mound with a FB that lives in the 84-86 MPH range touching 86.3 MPH at its peak with solid riding life including an average IVB of 15.8" and 2000+ RPMs of spin at times getting above the 2200 RPMs range. He follows the FB up with a solid present breaking ball which gives two plane movement shape leaning more towards a SLD in the 72-75 MPH range with an average of -12.1" of glove side horizontal break while adding -8.4" of IVB showing spin rates in the 2000-2100 RPMs range. The third offering for Lumbert is a 75-78 MPH CHG which has more of a straighter movement shape averaging 2.2" of IVB with .8" of average horizontal fade to the arm side and some feel to kill spin averaging around 1400 RPMs of spin. He controls the FB well with flashes of feel for both the SLD/CHG.

Adding to his profile is an interesting athletic makeup to his 6'1 202.2 lbs frame with a 6.99 60 time while posting 1.68 10-yard / 3.91 30-yard splits with a 20.1 MPH max run speed. His arm strength plays to a 2B/3B profile with an 81 MPH personal best at the NorCal Preseason All State. From there his RH swing has been consistently strong with the metrics he posts including a top bat speed of 74.7 MPH while adding a top hand speed of 20.9 MPH with 18.5 Gs of rotational acceleration. With a quality, quick swing path Lumbert has also showed a feel for his approach during batting practice with strong Trackman Technologies batted ball data including a max exit velocity of 97.3 MPH, an average exit velocity of 88.5 MPH with intriguing impact reaching 371' on his max distance. His underlying Trackman data shows well too with a 50% hard hit and sweet spot rate to go with 60-100% Fly Ball/Line Drive rates across each of his events.

Lumbert figures to be a key piece of the rising Del Oro Golden Eagles success this spring likely both on the mound and in their lineup. College programs still finalizing their 2025 recruiting classes especially across the JUCO levels would be well served to keep their eyes on this talented NorCal uncommitted product.

The first thing I notice about Kael is his size at 6'2" 202.2 lbs. Looks bigger than the last time the staff saw him at the NorCal UC Games in October. His grip strength was top 3 for the whole event, 155.8 (R) and 162.8 (L). He's a real strong kid and I can see him staying on the left side because the arm plays. He's got good instincts in the INF, I think he's more of a 3B. Kael's max EV was a solid 97.3 MPH and had a max distance of 371 FT. Lots of hard hit balls with a hard hit % of 50. I think Lumbert has got a real good chance to be a good pitcher in the future. The FB was sitting at 85.3 MPH and topped out at 86 MPH. The CH has got some nasty fade to it, but I like the SL more. 1932 RPM on the SL with an avg of 14.8 in of movement. Kael is one of the top uncommitted 25's in NorCal.
