Updated Illinois Power 25 Rankings

With two full weeks of games behind us, our staff felt it was time to hit the refresh button on the Power 25. There was some movement throughout, with Edwardsville (6-1) and Lincoln-Way West (4-0) taking over the top two spots - along with Nazareth (7-0) and Triad (6-1) making big jumps into the Top-10. There's also five new teams in this update, helping to shake out the bottom half of the rankings.

Read on below for a look at the notable action throughout the Power 25 from the first two weeks of gameplay. 

Climbing 

+ No. 1 Edwardsville (6-1): Rising two spots to No. 1, the Tigers are unsurprisingly off to a hot start, going a perfect 3-0 on the first week of the season with Power 25 wins over No. 7 at the time Normal Community 11-0 and No. 12 Joliet Catholic 5-4. They finished this past week at a 3-1 clip highlighted by a big win over No. 8 De Smet Jesuit (MO) 12-5, and their lone loss came to Missouri’s top ranked Howell 7-1. The Tigers have a few big games on the docket, as they are scheduled to take on a 6-1 Sacred Heart Griffin club later today, along with No. 14 Mascoutah later this week. 

+ No. 2 Lincoln-Way West (4-0): The Warriors are up one spot to No. 2, and they have outscored opponents an eye-opening 49-2 in their first four games - taking down Tinley Park 15-0, Thornton Fractional South 12-2, Marist 9-0 and Shepard 13-0. Even more impressively, the Warriors have only allowed two hits through their first four games, with two of the contests being combined no-hitters. 

+ No. 4 Libertyville (7-0): Rising one spot to No. 4, the Wildcats are off to a perfect 7-0 start, coming off five wins this past week with some out of state competition - taking down Arizona’s No. 14 team Mountain Ridge 4-3, Lake Oswego (OR) 14-1, Churchill (OR) 5-0, Valley Christian (AZ) 2-1 and Valley Vista (AZ) 9-1. They also saw two in-state wins in their first week of play, taking down South Elgin 12-1 and defending 3A state champs Crystal Lake Central 9-4. 

+ No. 6 Minooka (5-0): Minooka is rising three spots to No. 6 in this update, and they have some quality wins under their belt already. They have two Power 25 wins, taking down No. 18 at the time Morris 2-1 and No. 12 at the time Joliet Catholic 1-0 - and they also have beaten Coal City 12-2, Wilmington 12-3 and Batavia 8-5. 

+ No. 8 Nazareth (7-0): The Roadrunners break into the Top-10 after a perfect 7-0 start, rising nine spots. They went a perfect 4-0 this past week, taking down Amundsen 16-1, Ogden International 9-2, Romeoville 11-0 and Limestone 6-4. They also saw wins over Kenwood 2-1, Reavis 4-2 and Timothy Christian 7-1 in the first week of the season. On the year so far, they have outscored opponents 55-11. 

+ No. 9 Triad (6-1): Another big riser in this update, the Knights find themselves up 11 spots to No. 9 after a dominant 6-1 start. Their lone loss came to Missouri’s No. 9 club Vianney 2-0, and they have wins over Mt. Vernon 17-1, No. 16 at the time Glenwood 12-6, Missouri’s No. 12 team Jackson 5-2, No. 18 Morris 9-2, Galesburg 14-3 and Champaign Central 15-4. 

+ No. 13 Hampshire (8-0): Rising nine spots to No. 13 we have the Whip-Purs, who are off to a dominant 8-0 start. They played six games this past week and won them all - taking down Harvest Christian 4-2, Woodstock 15-0, Crossroads Christian 12-1, Larkin 7-5, Schaumburg 11-1 and Woodstock North 5-3. They also went a perfect 2-0 the first week of the season, seeing dominant wins over Belvidere 25-1 and Westminster Christian 13-2. 

+ No. 17 Father McGivney (7-2): Rising four spots to No. 17, Father McGivney is coming off a perfect 4-0 second week, taking down Marquette Catholic 9-2 & 10-0, Westminster Christian 22-0 and St. Teresa 13-1. One of their losses came to Tennessee’s No. 15 team Briarcrest Christian 5-3 - and they also beat Tennessee’s No. 20 team Lausanne 10-8, along with Munford (TN) 5-3 and Vandalia (12-0). 

Falling 

+ No. 3 Providence Catholic (2-1): The Celtics find themselves at No. 3 in this week’s update more so because of what the two teams in front of them have done up to this point. Provi’s wins last week came against Joliet Central 24-0 and Dakota 16-1, while they lost to St. Charles North 6-4. We remain high on the defending 4A Champs,, and look forward to seeing how they do this week as they begin the WJOL/Don Ladas Tournament.

+ No. 12 Lemont (1-1-1): Lemont fell four spots in this week’s update, now checking in at No. 12, while failing to notch a win last week; losing to Northside Central (FL) 4-2, and tying Yorkville 3-3. The reigning 3A State Champs are on their spring break trip this week, and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back.

+ No. 18 Normal Community (1-3): After a slow start in week one and going 2-2 last week, the Ironmen find themselves down to No. 18 this week. Heading into their spring break trip, they were 1-1, with an 11-7 victory over Morton and an 11-0 loss to Edwardsville in the Metro East Kickoff Classic. Over spring break, they picked up wins against Hayden (AL) 6-2 and Jefferson City (MO) 9-7, while taking losses to Central (AL) 4-3 and Athens (AL) 8-5.

+ No. 19 Huntley (3-2): The Red Raiders have had mixed results to begin the 2025 campaign, notching an impressive week one victory over now No. 7 Brother Rice 12-10, while picking up losses to at the time No. 24 St. Charles East 3-2 and Fremd 5-3. 

+ No. 21 Mount Carmel (3-2): The Caravan find themselves falling eight spots in the updated Power 25, after a 1-2 week that saw them defeat Morgan Park 6-0, and pick up losses to Romeoville 7-4 and Lockport 6-0. The Caravan have a bounce back opportunity Wednesday, as they are slated to take on No. 23 Andrew on the road.

New to the Power 25

+ No. 16 DeKalb (8-0): Making their Power 25 debut, DeKalb is off to a scorching 8-0 start with some big wins under their belt, including Power 25 wins over No. 4 at the time McHenry 5-3 and No. 18 Morris 10-5. They also have wins over Sandwich 12-2, Guilford 17-2, Glenbard North 6-5, Marmion 7-5, Dixon 15-1 and Larkin 9-1. 

+ No. 20 O’Fallon (6-0): The Panthers are breaking into the Power 25 at No. 20 after a 6-0 start. They went 3-0 this past week with wins over Waterloo 9-8, Highland 10-4 and Freeburg 6-4. The first week of the season saw them take down two Power 25 clubs with wins over No. 18 Morris 7-4 and No. 12 Joliet Catholic 12-3 - with their lone loss coming to Champaign Central 8-2. 

+ No. 22 Oswego (6-0): Oswego is off to a hot 6-0 start, and they slide in at No. 22 in this update. They have a Power 25 win under their belt already, taking down No. 25 at the time Benet 12-11, and they also have wins over Naperville Central 9-5, Naperville North 11-1, Effingham 13-2, Galesburg 8-2 and Belleville West 13-2. 

+ No. 23 Lincoln-Way East (5-0): Lincoln-Way East is 5-0 to begin the year and find themselves entering the Power 25 at No. 23. They went 3-0 last week with wins over Wilmington 2-1, Oak Forest 7-5, and Maine South 8-4. During opening week, the Griffins picked up wins over Downers Grove North 12-2 and Yorkville 2-1. Lincoln-Way East is on their spring break trip this week, and it will be interesting to see how they fare against out-of-state competition.

+ No. 24 Andrew (6-0): The Thunderbolts are off to an impressive 6-0 start to begin the year including going 5-0 last week. Their wins came over Simeon 12-0, Glenbard North 17-8, Harlem 15-7, St. Joseph-Ogden 4-1 and Bishop McNamara 9-1.
