Uncommitted Spotlight: 2026 Catchers

Cooper Trinkle
Indiana Scouting Director

We are nearly halfway through the spring and inching closer and closer towards the summer recruiting period. This end-of-spring to summer period is a vital time for uncommitted juniors, as recruiters will likely be out in bunches at this time in order to evaluate this class. Our staff plans to break down the top uncommitted players at each position as we near this time, with plenty of talented options still on the board. We begin with the catchers, 15 highlighted below, with our most recent video attached of each prospect, along with a scouting report for those that have attended events within the last year.

Reed Robinson C / 2B / New Prairie, IN / 2026

From - (3/18/25) Profile: Stocky, 5-foot-10, 195 pound C/OF, S/R. Bat is the best tool and can do it from both side with bat strength evident in triple digit exits. Present abv avg bat speed (75 mph avg) pairs with a tick above averge run tool (6.94). Shows abv avg arm strength from the crouch (81 mph). Actions - Offense: (LH) - sets up in a slightly crouched, athletic stance before a hovering stride and repeatable load happen. Turns the barrel on-plane with g2g strength and flashes present pull-side power. Similiar swing from the RH side, though less aggressive. Defense: Average receiver, arm has continued to develop working quick, high-motor. Summation: Robinson is a middle of the order bat and that tool leads a bat-first profile. The switch-hitting ability is real and he creates bat speed from both sides with strength and accuracy. He is a solid-enough runner to allow that tool to be impactful offensively, as well. There is some defensive versatility with a chance to stick behind the dish, but if you need a run-producers' bat in this class, you should see Robinson this spring/summer.

Tristan Yerman C / OF / Center Grove, IN / 2026

From (3/18/25) A showcase setting isn't necessarily where defense-first catchers standout, but Yerman put together a solid day in total with the bat strength taking a tick up compared to his results at the same event last year. It is an athletic operation in the right-handed box with a short, on-plane swing & exits at 95 mph. His catch-and-throw is solid with pops reaching 2.01 - but to get a full glimpse of his game you have to watch him receive in a real game.

Riley Matlock C / OF / Southport High School, IN / 2026

+ A physical-framed, 6-foot backstop, Matlock's RH bat leads the profile with power potential evident in the upper-90s exits he produces. He works behind the ball and creates loft with an uphill path that is delivered by fast hands. A 6.9 runner - Matlock moves well behind the dish and is an above average receiver. His arm is up to 77 from the crouch, and he brings abv avg catch-and-throw, as well.

Parker Osteen C / 3B / Hamilton Southeastern HS, IN / 2026

Rankings  StateRank:POS: 5

From (3/01/25) - Parker Osteen is a 2026 C with a strong, stocky 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame. A switch-hitter with real power from both sides, Osteen’s barrel plays heavy and his strength shows consistently in the box — posting a 101 mph max exit velocity (91.3 avg) with a 383’ peak distance. He’s an average defender behind the dish with pop times ranging 2.04–2.19 and a 77 mph arm. A 7.33 runner, Osteen’s value is driven by his bat — a physical hitter who impacts the baseball with authority and could profile as a middle-of-the-order presence at the next level.

Ryan Rodman C / C / Western High School, IN / 2026

From (3/18/25) - Athletic backstop. Bat-first with athletic RH swing, rotates well. Has fast hands with on-plane swing that produced 99-plus exits, and averaged 92.5 throughout. Very solid catch-and-throw skills with an 81 mph arm from the crouch and pops into the 1.9s. 7.10 runner that could likely double as a corner OF to get the bat in the lineup.

Luke Mann C / OF / Northridge, IN / 2026

From (3/16/25) - Mann shined in batting practice with a big, physical, 6-foot-2, 190 pound presence in the right-handed batters' box. He starts in a slightly wider than shoulder-width stance, and uses a lower leg lift stride that is paired with a loose, big barrel tip. The barrel tips well-over his head and creates length, but when he syncs it he is able to create tons of bat speed with his best ball coming off the bat at 100-plus mph. There is power potential in the operation. He showed a fringy arm from the crouch, and he is an abv avg runner with the athleticism to slide to corner OF spot if needed.

David Pina C / 1B / Fishers High School, IN / 2026

Joel Tracy C / 3B / Center Grove, IN / 2026

From (3/01/25) - Joel Tracy is a 2026 C with a strong, 5-foot-11, 190-pound build and one of the top defensive skillsets in the class. A high-motor receiver with advanced receiving instincts, Tracy pairs his 81 mph arm with efficient footwork and fast exchange, flashing pop times as low as 1.98. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a short, rotational swing that works level through the zone with bat strength to do damage, peaking at 94 mph exit velocity. He’s a 7.21 runner and profiles as a defense-first backstop with enough impact at the plate to round out the profile.

Mekyel Almond C / SS / McCutcheon , IN / 2026

From (3/01/25) - Mekyel Almond is a 2026 C/SS with an undersized 5-foot-9, 175-pound frame that packs compact strength and twitch. He hits from a balanced setup with a small hand waggle, and the barrel works on-plane with some length on the backside. There’s twitch and explosion at launch, flashing bat speed and generating a 94 mph max exit velocity (84.4 avg). Behind the plate, Almond is one of the top defenders in the class with an electric 85 mph arm from the crouch and advanced pop times in the 1.87–1.95 range. His quick transfer and arm strength stand out, and his receiving is clean with the tools to stick. Also a 7.05 runner

Matthew Berry C / 3B / Frankfort, IN / 2026

From (3/01/25) - Matthew Berry is a 2026 C/3B with a compact 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame and strong feel for the game on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he features a short, handsy swing with a stable lower half that keeps his head quiet, allowing his hand-eye coordination and barrel accuracy to shine. He posted a 94 mph max exit velocity (80.7 avg) with a 354’ peak distance, and his bat-to-ball skillset plays well in-game. Defensively, Berry stands out as a receiver with a quiet setup and sure hands. He shows a quick, clean transfer and a short, strong 79 mph arm behind the plate, leading to 2.00–2.13 pop times. Solid all-around catcher with a reliable toolset and advanced instincts.

Gunner Alexander C / RHP / Gibson Southern, IN / 2026

He also showed well in the bullpen portion, showing sure hands and above average overall receiving abilities. At the plate, the stocky right-handed hitter showed a short, simple swing, hitting into a firm lead leg to allow the barrel to accelerate through contact. Alexander flashed gap power, reaching a peak exit velocity of 93.6 mph.

Jake McCammon C / 1B / Bloomington High School South, IN / 2026

From (3/01/25) - Jake McCammon is a 2026 C/1B with a large 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame and some projection still left. The right-handed hitter shows an aggressive approach with a longer, on-plane swing that holds power potential—leveraging well with present pull-side juice and above average barrel accuracy (96 mph max EV, 91.1 avg). Behind the plate, McCammon is an easy mover with above average receiving ability and posted 2.03–2.08 pop times with a 76 mph arm. Grant Beard C / OF / ST THEODORE GUERIN HIGH SCHOOL, IN / 2026

From (3/1/25) - Grant Beard is a 2026 C/OF with a strong, 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame and a quiet, repeatable swing. Hitting from a small crouch, he uses a toe tap stride and subtle forward move to get into position before delivering a direct barrel with some heaviness behind it. Beard registered a 92 mph max exit velocity (83.3 avg) with a 345’ peak distance, showing the ability to impact the baseball. Behind the plate, he’s a solid all-around defender with strong receiving actions and an advanced catch-and-throw skillset, producing 2.00–2.04 pop times on an 82 mph arm—the best tool in his defensive profile.

Will Bobay C / 1B / William W Borden High School, IN / 2026

From (2/05/25) - '26 C Will Bobay (Borden HS) is a physical catcher that showed solid tools to pair with an athletic, 6-foot, 185 pound frame. There is a loose rhythm to the operation in the right-handed batter's box, lifting the bat off the shoulder to counterbalance a heavier forward move. He showed off some bat speed & strength with exits reaching 96.3 mph, and his best balls were spun to the pull-side gap due to his loose, level swing plane. He showed off above average arm strength (77 from the crouch) and was energetic with feel to block during bullpens.
