Prep Baseball Classic: Scout Blog
June 18, 2025
EMERSON, GA: The Prep Baseball Classic had no shortage of talent. Everything from uncommitted 2026's to up and coming underclass talent. Our scouting staff breaks down some players that stood out to them with notes and video over over 20 players.
Rhett Morgan, C/3B, 2027, Southeast Bulloch
Morgan would put together an impressive showing in the box all tournament long (7-for-13, .538 BA, and 6 RBI). With one of the biggest performances coming on Saturday afternoon where he would go 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, single, 2 runs, and 4 RBI. The physical 6-foot-0, 208-pound backstop stays simple at the plate and generates a ton of strength from the ground-up. Morgan stays well-balanced and compact as he explodes through the zone in a well-leveraged path with feel for the barrel and impact to match. The incoming junior would produce hard-hits throughout with a multiple all over 90 +. There is strength to project upon throughout the profile with a real feel to hit as well.
Jacob Watson, RHP/3B, 2026, Falls Lake Academy (NC)
Uncommitted. Watson would provide an electric look in a brief relief appearance on Friday afternoon. Striking out 6 across 2.2 IP. Standing a physical and projectable 6-foot-0, 223-pounds, Watson creates easy drive down the mound with ability to repeat well. Fastball lived 87-88 (T89 MPH) with heavy arm-side run. Playing extremely well off the fastball was the curveball with sharp depth at 74-76 and innate feel for spin (3000 + RPM). Two-way uncommitted name to know.
Drew Abney, C, 2026, Pope
It was a monster showing all weekend for the Jacksonville State commit as more of the same would continue to open bracket play. Abney would stay locked in at the plate during the 8 AM slot as he would go 3-for-3 with a home-run, double, and a single with 2 RBI. The physical LHH stays well-balanced and leveraged in-zone with innate bat speed and barrel feel. Pitch recognition stands out with an advanced understanding of the zone in a mature all-fields approach. There is massive raw power to project upon in the 6-foot-0, 205-pound frame that consistently shows up in-game.
Gage Campbell, 1B/RHP, 2026, Rockmart
Uncommitted. Campbell was a major catalyst on both sides of the ball in a bracket play win to help TL10 advance to the Semi-Final game. As he would hop on the mound in relief after an early deficit and answer the call across 5.0 quality IP with 9 Ks. Displayed a good feel for all three pitches and ability to repeat and mix well. Fastball sat 83-84 T85. Changeup played extremely well off the fastball with depth for a heavy dose of swing-and-miss. Curveball was flipped over at 67-70. The two-way prowess was evident when TL10 would take the lead in the last inning. As Campbell would break the game open even further with a massive 3-run home-run to the pull-side (94 EV/ 382 Ft.). The physical LHH delivers a heavy barrel through the zone in a well-leveraged path and generates a ton of strength from the ground-up. There is big-time projection throughout the 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame on both sides of the ball for the uncommitted incoming senior.
Nate Russell, 2026, RHP Cartersville High School
Uncommitted. Russell came out and dominated in the Classic, after putting up a good showing in the Top Prospect Georgia showcase earlier in the week. Using an over the top delivery and a three pitch mix, he was able to generate swing and miss on all three. The fastball which sat 88-90 and topped out at 91 multiple times on the outing, has excellent ride to the top of the zone averaging about 18 IVB. The curveball was 75-77 with sharp bite vertically, and the changeup showed flashes that it could be a plus pitch for him. With sub 1000 spin, and sitting in the low 80s it had hitters way out in front keeping the fastball tunnel until the very last second when it dove out of the zone. Russell continues to shine this Summer as one of the top uncommitted arms in the state.
