PROSPECT PULSE (BC): SOUTHPAWS TO SEE

Deven Simonovic LHP / Lambrick Park, BC / 2027Simonovic has been considered one of the must-see arms in the 2027 class dating back to his freshman campaign, and it’s easy to see why. The left-hander moves well down the mound, with a long, circular arm swing and well timed intensity in the delivery. Simonovic was up to 85 with the fastball and landed the breaking ball for a strike at 69-70 mph during our most recent look at the Rogers Centre. There’s plenty of athleticism in the profile, with room to add strength and size. Our staff is excited to get out and see Simonovic early this spring.

Ashton Hummel LHP / PCS, BC / 2027Hummel is another Victoria native that has been on our radar for quite some time now. A Junior Future Gamer in 2023, Hummel has been steadily progressing over the past three years. It’s a physical 6-foot-2, 230-pound frame with a strong lower half and plenty of present strength. The left-hander repeats his delivery well, with a distinct three pitch-mix. Ashton sat 83-84 mph in his bullpen during the 2025 preseason, with indications of more velocity right around the corner. Our staff is looking forward to getting an updated look at Hummel early this spring at Blaze Scout Day.

Eli Brookshaw LHP / Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary, BC / 2029Brookshaw is a 6-foot-1,170-pound 2029 grad with tons of upside in the profile. It’s a loose, low effort delivery with a three pitch mix. The Tritons product impressed as one of the youngest players in attendance at the West Coast Super Sophomore Games getting his fastball up to 81.8 mph, inducing several in-zone swing and misses and an average of 15.1 inches of arm side movement. The curveball showed good depth during his outing with an intriguing third pitch in his developing changeup that played well against right-handed hitters. Although he is still a ways away from being eligible to talk to Colleges, we will be keeping a close eye on Brookshaw’s development, starting with an updated look next month at the BC Preseason Invitational.

Caleb Miller LHP / Delta Secondary School, BC / 2028Miller was regarded as one of the top arms on the 15U circuit last summer, and the upside is evident. It’s a strong 6-foot-2, 192-pound frame with a physical lower half. At the West Coast Super Sophomore Games, Miller sat 77-81 with a 65% zone rate and max IVB of 23.2 inches. The present putaway pitch is a split finger fastball that lives 68-71 mph with an average spin rate of 962 rpm. Look for Miller to continue his upward trajectory as he moves up to the Premier league with the Delta Blue Jays.
