2025 Spring Team Preview: Londonderry (NH)

LONDONDERRY - Seven “significant contributors” are back from last season’s 16-6 squad that lost in the semifinals bringing plenty of optimism to head coach Brent Demas and the Lancers.

“Our program focuses on details more so than others,” pointed out Demas, who enters his 21st year at the helm with five state titles. “We have high expectations for the players and coaches.”

The two top hitters in Jayden Hamilton and Owen Carey have graduated along with pitcher Joey Cafaro, but the cupboard is far from bare.

Jet Jones, Brady Gillis, Brett McKinnon, Zach Green and Ryan Perry are seniors back along with junior Jaylen Stott and sophomore Sully Daron. Jones is a Utah Valley commit ranked sixth among 2025 catchers in New England, Gillis is a Saint Anselm signee rated 74th among senior right-handed pitchers in New England and McKinnon is a Merrimack recruit.

“This is a very balanced team with a great blend of experience and talent,” noted Demas. “We can match up with any D1 pitching staff this year. We have quality starters and numerous arms in the bullpen that would likely be in many rotations across the league. Another strength is team speed and baseball IQ, which is very nice to have. We are more fundamentally sound with infield defense this year and have an experienced outfield.”

The concerns are minimal.

“We have possible questions around first base and figuring out a way to get all our guys the time they need to develop,” Demas said. “We will see, though.”

A few newcomers bring additional optimism from Demas, who has won 316 games as head coach.

“We are very happy to have Zach Mantegari return to the field after a year off for soccer,” Demas said. “He is like a second coach out there. Sully Daron will be sliding into an invaluable role in the field and on the bump this year and Liam Killelea brings an element of speed and defense to the outfield. Brody Labbe will be a primary hitter for us this year. He has a short compact swing that gets to the ball quickly.”

It adds up to some strong possibilities.

“This team is more cohesive than it was last year,” Demas explained. “There are many more team-first mentalities than what ended up being the case last year. We also have less pressure, which to me is always better. We have a good time and are efficient with our time. At game time their passion comes out and that is always when you want it to!”

The league features a lot of parity, with Londonderry one of the teams to beat.

“The keys for success are to focus on what is in front of you, execute your roles and have fun,” Demas concluded.
