2025 Spring Team Preview: Mount Saint Charles (RI)

WOONSOCKET, R.I. - Year one of being a Prep School brings excitement to Idris Liasu, head coach at Mount Saint Charles Academy.

“It’s an opportunity to get kids from all over New England,” explained Liasu, better known as Coach E. “We have kids from the Dominican Republic, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”

The first-year mentor at Saint Charles, who had run a private program since 2012 while also scouting for the Angles and helping the Brewers in addition to coaching at different colleges, has high hopes for the program.

“It’s an opportunity to give athletes a chance to get recognition,” Liasu said. “I want to help transform it into a national program. We have a lot of talent in our league and we’re excited to be part of it.”

The excitement displayed by the new head coach is obvious.

“The roster is very interesting,” Liasu related. “We have a lot of young guys that have been with the Prep Baseball platform.”

Mason Bloomfield, a versatile junior RHP who pitches and plays first base, third and outfield, is expected to “be one of our horses” according to Liasu, with post grad left-handed pitcher Leandro Araujo, a Monroe Junior College commit, another leader on the mound.

Junior Brady Spenovich and sophomore Colin Goding are back from a year ago, with 2027 Will Robinson and 2028 Riley Barker adding depth to the staff.

“We lost one of our top arms and a middle-of-the-order guy in Brayden Slack,” Liasu noted about the junior who is out for the season. “We have a lot of relief guys, so we’ll have to piece together our mound guys.”

Vincent DaSilva will be the starting catcher for the Mounties with fellow junior Jayden Marcello, the 18th-rated 2026 catcher in New England, another who can play behind the plate as well as in the outfield.

“He brings great energy and is a strong pitch caller,” Liasu said of DaSilva. “He has a good feel for the game.”

Eian Peacock, a post grad committed to Rivier College, brings a left-handed bat to first base with Bloomfield another possibility at first.

Junior Landon Laplante returns at second base but “we have a lot of talented guys to push him” Liasu related, including sophomore Kyle Castellone.

Another of those is senior Greg Petite, last year’s starting shortstop who could move over to second with senior Aiden Ciprian taking over at short.

“He’s a plus runner and one of the best defenders I’ve seen in a long time,’ Liasu pointed out about Ciprian, the 22nd-rated senior shortstop in New England who is an Iona commit.

Jeremy Pena and Mason Kenyon, a 2029 who participated in last year’s Junior Future Games, are more promising infielders.

Brady Lecuyer, a junior, is the lead candidate at third base according to Liasu, with Bloomfield another possibility at the position.

Central Connecticut commit Jacob Veloz, the fourth-rated 2026 outfielder in New England, will be in center with junior Anthony Maturo or Castellone in left. Marcello and sophomore Jason Fugere are competing for right field with Jacoby Joyce, a “legit athlete” in the 2029 class, another potential outfielder.

Nathan Killion, another in the 2029 class, could fit in somewhere, added Liasu.

“We have a lot of team speed,” Liasu related. “We want to build the team around defense. We want to be strong up the middle. As for our arms, we have a lot of strike throwers and a lot of depth in the bullpen. We don’t have power arms but we have guys that are tough and will compete.

“Offensively, once we figure out a lineup we will put a lot of pressure on teams,” Liasu added. “We have a gritty style and I think we have a chance to shock some people when we step on the field.”
