2025 Spring Team Preview: Pinkerton Academy (NH)
DERRY, N.H. - Winning is nothing new at Pinkerton Academy.
The program has reached at least the state quarterfinals every season since Stephen Campo took over as head coach in 2013. There have been three straight trips to the finals, with two state titles including last year when the Astros capped off a 21-1 season with an NHIAA Division I championship.
“Our program is established on being competitive,” Campo said in describing his view of Pinkerton Academy in baseball. “We have been fortunate to have some very talented ball players come through this program. Our goal is to try to out work everyone.”
With seven key returnees, including every starting pitcher from a year ago, opponents will be hard pressed to knock off Pinkerton Academy in 2025.
“The strength of our team will be our starting pitching,” noted Campo, who has a 177-64 record in his time in charge of the Astros, with two state titles (2022 and 2024), two runners-up finishes (2014 and 2023) and three other Final Four appearances (2013, 2015 and 2018). “We are returning all of our starting pitchers from our 2024 championship season and are also returning our middle infield in four-year varsity starter Brendan Horne at shortstop and Preston Libby at second base.”
A VCU commit, Horne, the second-ranked senior in New Hampshire and fourth-rated 2025 shortstop in New England, hit .301 with 22 runs, 21 stolen bases and 14 RBIs a year ago. Libby, a Husson University signee, had a .677 OPS with 12 runs scored.
But it is on the mound where Pinkerton expects to shine the most this season with the return of Leo Boucher, Mike Cioffi and Hunter Brasier. Boucher, a Penn State commit ranked 12th among 2025 right-handed pitchers in New England, was 6-0 with a 1.631 ERA, fanning 47 in 36 innings pitched. Cioffi, like Boucher a first-team all-state selection, finished 7-1 with a 0.784 ERA. The 12th-rated senior southpaw in New England, a Southern New Hampshire signee, had 59 Ks in 44.2 frames. Brasier was 7-0 with a 1.628 ERA in 44 innings in earning second-team all-state accolades.
Boucher, who had a .351 average with 16 runs and 14 RBIs, and Brasier, who hit .313 with 13 RBIs and 12 runs, will both be in the outfield when not pitching, joined by Anthony Caruso, a UNH football commit who batted .375 with 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored in 2024.
John Hanlon, another Husson recruit, has big shoes to fill at first base or DH after the graduation of leading hitter Jackson Marshall (.508), who is now playing at Southern New Hampshire.
“This team has been working hard all off-season,” noted Campo. “They know how competitive D1 baseball in New Hampshire is and are focused on taking this season one game at a time.”
Matt Hanna, Hayden Marshall, Landin Moore and Lazlo Beaulieu are newcomers to watch according to the Pinkerton head coach. Marshall is the third-rated junior catcher in New Hampshire and Beaulieu the number one ranked sophomore shortstop in New Hampshire.
“We lost a lot of guys that played a big role in our offense,” explained Campo, including Elijah Sharp, a .365 hitter last season now at Eastern Connecticut. “Our key early on will be relying on our pitching and defense until we can create our offensive identity.”
Will it be enough to make another state final appearance?
“Division 1 is always competitive,” Campo concluded. “There are never any days off, anyone can beat anyone, and we expect this year to be no different.”
