Rodriguez vs. San Ramon Valley
Bryce Monte, RHP, San Ramon Valley, 2025
In an outing that started with the first three runners reaching base, Monte left quite an impression on the mound, finishing the game with a final line of 5 IP, 4 H, 6 K, 2 BB, and 0 R. With a high ¾ arm slot, Monte relied heavily on a North-South approach, primarily using a FB/CB mix while also flashing a CH. With his FB topping out at 91 mph in the first, Monte kept Rodriguez hitters off-balance throughout the game. Monte generated whiffs above the zone with the pitch, could spot it well at the knees, and paint it on the outer third to RHH. This played well with his CB, which he was comfortable throwing in all counts, both in the zone and for chase. Despite having a slight tendency to open up his shoulders, particularly early in the game, and missing up and in to RHH, Monte seemed to get more comfortable as the game progressed. With a power fastball, sharp breaking ball, and an ability to pitch out of jams, the uncommitted senior should be a name to watch out for in the San Ramon Valley rotation.
