Pacifica vs. Ventura
Cooper Tinkey, RHP, Ventura, 2026
In my final live look at the Cougars righthander during his high school career he did what he has consistently done for me and that is pitch to a high performance level. His raw stuff is not electric working off a 80-83 MPH FB which I’ve seen tick as high as 85-86 MPH in the past while working a heavy diet of his sound Slurve-like breaking ball in at 70-73 MPH and complimenting those two with an interesting 76-77 MPH CHG. The FB for Tinkey plays best when he is sinking it below the barrel to generate ground ball contact which he did consistently throughout the game. Tinkey gets in trouble when he elevates the FB and it stays in the zone. All the hard contact against him came in that region, but he can get chase on the FB if he elevates it up above the strike zone especially when he has a hitter look for the breaking ball. His breaking ball gives vertical break and horizontal break appearing more like slurve which he used aggressively throughout the outing. He struggled with control of the pitch early, but did eventually settle in with the offering which slowed down the timing of the Tritons hitters to help him run the FB in under the hands of RH hitters for heavy GB contact especially in key situations. The CHG is predominantly used against LH hitting and the running life to the arm side he generates on it picks up whiff and chase. His delivery remains relatively clean and low effort, profiling to a long term starter profile for him and if he can add command to his solid present control he should be a solid starting option at the next level.
