STOCKTON, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft was completed on June 5th and on June 9th we started to look toward the 2020 draft class at the Northern California ProCase. A select group of players were invited to participate in this exclusive event geared toward draft prospects and high level collegiate talents with future draft potential. Players were put through a pro-style workout with various stats/data recorded during the workouts which can be found HERE.

RHP Cameron Walty (Cosumnes Oaks HS)
2020 RHP Cameron Walty (Nevada Commit) measured up at 6-0, 175 with a high waist showing good strength through the lower half looking more firm since last viewing in Fresno during the Easter Classic. Walty came to the event prepared to highlight his stuff as he pitched with moxie going after the hitters he faced showing the three pitch sequence to be a weekend starter at the next level. Working with a loose, quick arm showing length behind his back before 3/4 release, there's strong forward momentum as he uses the slope of the mound well to repeat his athletic high-knee delivery. The delivery allows for that late, quick arm to jump on hitters off of the long stride that shows the flexibility in the frame. I think there's some velo still coming and wouldn't be surprised to see Walty pitching in the low 90's come spring season.
During this performance, Walty moved the FB (88-89 MPH) painting down and away before going up through the zone flashing run back over the plate before following the FB with two average or better off-speed pitches. The CHG was an average offering, but it is trending upwards as he's improved the feel and depth of the pitch giving it late bottom occurring on top of hitters. At 81-83 MPH, the CHG will fit the arsenal well as the FB continues to develop velocity. Walty used the pitch early in counts for easy ground balls and it helped set up both the FB and CB. The CB, a knuckle-curve variety, flashes as an above average pitch working 78-81 MPH having late biting action down through the zone for the swing and miss. When the pitch is it's best it's a very tight SLD with 10-4 shape breaking away from the hitter late in the path to home. Walty also showed the ability to spin it in for strikes keeping hitters guessing.
With three pitches and the build to work quality starts, Walty has seen his stock increase through a successful 2019 season and into the summer showcase season. The recent Nevada commit has continued to develop and will go into 2020 as one of the top pitchers to watch in Northern California.
