North Carolina Class of 2027: Rankings Update

With the close of the summer season and the start of the new school year, Prep Baseball North Carolina has updated its Class of 2027 Rankings. This update expands the list to the Top 275 players in the state, reflecting the depth and quality of talent in this group. For the, now, Junior class, this summer was the beginning of the eyes of the scouting world turning their attention to them. With bigger stages, several players in the state made big impressions. With new recruiting rules in place, coaches and scouts are getting a longer look at players prior to making offers. This summer was just the beginning of the process that will last, for many, well into their Senior year.

Summer of Growth

The summer of 2025 was a pivotal period for the Class of 2027. Players across the state competed in national tournaments, organizational scout days, and Prep Baseball events, testing their tools against high-level competition. Many prospects showed measurable gains in strength, speed, and skill, while others emerged as consistent performers in game action.

The Prep Baseball Future Games once again proved to be a major proving ground. Team Carolina’s 2027s delivered standout performances in front of more than 400 college coaches, with several players making significant jumps in their prospect status. Those gains are now reflected in the updated rankings.

Overall, the rankings database saw over 350 players added from Prep Baseball events and coverage. The 2027 Rankings move to the Top 275 players with over 60 players making their 1st appearance inside the state’s rankings.

Inside the 2027 Rankings: Breakout Names

Beckett Denton RHP / OF / Weddington, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 36

A big summer was capped off with a dominate two inning outing in front of over 400 college coaches at the Prep Baseball Future Games.  There is a lot to like about the current stuff but it is the future projection that moves him into the top levels of the 2027 class.

Jaxon Haynes OF / LHP / Providence, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 43

The left handed hitter jumped on the scene with a big performance at the Charlotte Preseason ID.  A good high school season was followed by an excellent summer ball schedule where he showed athleticism and barrel feel in game action.  All of this earned him an invite to the Prep Baseball Future Games where he drew a lot of attention after the workout day.

Troy Alderfer 1B / RHP / Ambassador Christian, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 142

Alderfer is a high level football recruit that made giant strides this summer on the diamond.  His performace at the Power Baseball Scout Day in South Carolina put himi on the radar for a Future Games invite.  He earned the invite when our scouting staff saw elite stuff on the bump in a short outing later in the summer.  Ultimately Alderfer passed on the Future Games, but that does not diminish how he graded out.

Matty Carroll 3B / SS / Charlotte Christian, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 68

Highly thought of after a very good FR year at Charlotte Christian, Carroll added some body mass and manipulated his swing a bit in his development.  This past spring the swing did not play with the athleticism seen in 2024.  To Carroll's credit he made some quick adjustments and earned a spot on Team NC at the Future Games, showing off the refined swing and excellent athletic actions.  At the Future Games, there was barrel feel and a high level feel for playing the game at a high pace.

Eli Cash RHP / C / Corinth Holders, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 99

Cash lived in a shadow of a Top 3 round arm at Corinth Holders during the spring but he put everyone on notice that he is ready to take big innings this upcoming spring with his performace at the NC/SC Border Battle.  A strike thrower with good feel, the strength gains are making immediate impacts on how the stuff plays.

Jesse May RHP / OF / Riverside High, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 77

Long and lean, May is an excellent mover where the stuff on the bump has taken a jump.  He was a standout at the Prep Baseball Scout Day with Riptide Baseball.

Carter Rowe 2B / SS / Gaston Christian, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 71

Easy mover.  Oily hips.  Increased hand strength... Rowe will be a very fun follow in the coming year.  The frame suggests there is still a bunch of room to his ultimate ceiling.  His performances at the Scout Day with CBA and the NC/SC Border Battle vaulted him into a must follow range for most schools in the area.

Lucas Whalen RHP / Hickory Ridge, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 106

Players get better... Credit to Whalen and the work he has done in the past year as he is moving better down the hill and has added strength and quickness to his frame.  All of this translated in the Prep Baseball Scout Day with CBA where the stuff, across the board, ticked up from our last viewing.

Cooper Marks SS / RHP / Walter M Williams, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 141

A good athlete, Marks stood out on a field with a lot of projectable, future college baseball players.  At the NC/SC Border Battle Marks filled up the stat sheet on during the workout and the overall feel for the game shined in the game play.

Jayden Pipes 1B / RHP / Wesleyan Christian Academy, NC / 2027

Moved from No. 131

Pipes showed excellent strength and solid athletic actions at the Team Carolina ID: High Point.  That workout earned him an invite to the 2025 Top Prospect Games where the strength in BP translated in game play.  It is a very interesting Hit / Power profile.
