On Sunday, May 18th, the PB California staff traveled to Mater Dei HS in Santa Ana, CA, to host the SoCal Rising Stars Game, an invite-only event for the class of 2029-2030.

More than 20 players made their way to Santa Ana and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.

Today, we'll take a look at all of the postional scouting reports from the event:

PITCHER Analysis (ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

Gavin Carcelen, Los Osos High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Intriguing two-way player that can swing for power and has relief pitcher potential.
Body: 5-11, 148.8-pounds. Lean, long frame
Delivery: Glove stays above belt when set. Lifts glove to chest in windup. High leg kick. Lands short and softly after pitch.
Arm Action: RH. Full circle arm path. Low 3/4 arm slot. Quick release, with whip-action on FB. Follows through when landing.
FB: T78, 75-77 mph. 2SM/4SM play in the zone. Can through for strikes high in zone. T2124, 2014 average rpm.
CB: 60-63 mph. Commands for strikes and induces many whiffs. Frisbee-like action through zone with sharp break. T2228, 2028 average rpm.

Hank Cho, Crean Lutheran (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Two-way talent with exceptional mechanics as pitcher and middle of the order potential as hitter.
Body: 5-7, 156.8-pounds. Athletic, sturdy build.
Delivery: Comes set with glove high in front of face. Lowers to belt then raises in windup. High leg kick. Body lowers as back leg coils.
Arm Action: RH. Full circle arm path. Operates from a high 3/4 arm slot. Quick release. Follows through with slight recoil.
FB: T80, 76-79 mph. Varies with control. Can get whiffs and awkward contact with it's arm-side run. T2021, 1856 average rpm.
CB: 66-69 mph. Can get on top of hitters. Flashes swing-and-miss potential. Minimal early break. T2181, 2036 average rpm.
SL: 69-73 mph. Functions similar to CB with light break. T2180, 2124 average rpm.

Anthony Daniel, Undecided (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/2B Athletic middle infielder with strong tools across the board. Physical frame supports continued development and projection.
Body: 5-7, 132.3-pounds. Lengthy, athletic frame.
Delivery: Glove stays above belt before delivery. High leg kick. Brings both glove and leg high. Short follow through after pitch delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Full circle arm path. Lower 3/4 release. Long release.
FB: T78, 76-78 mph. Arm-side run is very present. Has almost 2-seam movement. T1920, 1845 average rpm.
CB: 67-69 mph. Has late break with slider movement. T2426, 2119 average rpm.

Cole Grothues, Servite (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Two-way switch player that has a strong feel on the mound and on the field. Can field/hit/pitch with both hands. Intriguing projection as a pitcher.
Body: 5-8, 146.8-pounds. Tall, stalky build.
Delivery: Glove stays high when set. Brings glove low to belt starting motion. High leg kick. Smooth, repeatable windup as RHP and LHP.
Arm Action: LH. Throws from High 3/4. Full circle arm path with pause at the top of delivery. Long arm release.
FB: T80, 72-76 mph. Plays firm and has good control of pitch as LHP and RHP. T2258, 2076 average rpm.
CB: 63-72 mph. Has loopy movement. Can throw for strikes. T2673, 2023 average rpm.
SL: 72-73 mph. Early break that can get chases out the zone. Can throw for strikes if needed. T2630, 2348 average rpm.
CH: 73-74 mph. Likes to throw low whiffs. Tunnels well with FB. T2093, 2091 average rpm.

Vincent Grove, Notre Dame (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP Solid two-way profile with clean actions on the infield and mound. Offensive and defensive tools show a foundation for long-term growth.
Body: 5-8, 130.1-pounds. Athletic, wiry frame.
Delivery: Body stays crouched and leaned over. Glove stays slightly lower than belt. Slow delivery from start to finish.
Arm Action: RH. Sidearm slot. Jab arm path. Short release arm action. Follows through with pitch.
FB: T74, 68-73 mph. Has arm-side run with 2-seam action. Likes to command pitch up.  T1824, 1738 average rpm.
SL: 63-65 mph. Slow breaking movement. Can throw off hitters. Struggles to command. T2091, 1982 average rpm.
CH: 66-67 mph. Likes to attack inside. Pitch has late dive. T1341, 1290 average rpm.

Rhett Lopez, Centennial High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Do-it-all player that can play multiple positions and pitch with high upside. Power bat that can function as a legit two-way threat.
Body: 5-9, 153-pounds. Compact, well-balanced athletic build.
Delivery: Glove sits at chest height. Body coils into delivery. High leg kick with long extension.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot. Full circle arm path. Quick release with whippy arm action. Slight recoil on FB.
FB: T81, 76-81 mph. Is firm and has occasional arm-side run. Commands pitch high often.  T1859, 1734 average rpm.
CB: 70-70 mph. Likes to throw pitch low. Has 12-6 movement. T1740, 1740 average rpm.
SL: 69-71 mph. Struggles to command pitch. Sweeping movement through the zone. T2106, 2025 average rpm.

Matthew Martinez, Santa Margarita Catholic High School (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP Strong, durable frame with two-way ability. Left-handed hitter with strength through contact and a mature swing. Physical tools show present impact with projection on both sides of the ball.
Body: 6-0, 160.7-pounds. Slender, balanced build.
Delivery: Sets glove high and brings glove low to belt when starting delivery. High leg kick.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 arm slot. 1/2 circle arm path. Long arm release. Comes down hard on mound.
FB: T80, 78-80 mph. Has 2-seam movement. Commands pitch with confidence. Likes to attack inside. T2014, 1851 average rpm.
CB: 66-68 mph. Has slurve-like motion. Can throw for strikes consistently. T1800, 1780 average rpm.
CH: 73-75 mph. Useful swing-and-miss pitch. Late dive on pitch. T1942, 1928 average rpm.

McKay Skarlanic, Carlsbad (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/1B Great 1B instincts, with lots to like asa RHP that can throw hard.
Body: 6-3, 183-pounds. Athletic, well-built frame.
Delivery: Tall presence on mound. Glove is set at belt level. Brings glove high with a medium leg kick. Repeatable delivery.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot. 1/2 circle arm path. Lengthy release. Comes down with intent on mound. Follows-through smoothly.
FB: T86, 83-85 mph. Firm and tight. Slight arm-side run. Has slight control issues missing low and away.  T2059, 1919 average rpm.
CB:  mph.  T,  average rpm.
SL: 70-73 mph. Late-break with pitch. Sweep-like movement through zone for swings-and-misses. T2133, 2097 average rpm.
CH: 77-79 mph. Great depth. Fades late and can generate whiffs.  T818, 761 average rpm.
