LANCASTER, CALIF. - This past Saturday, October 11th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the High Desert Uncommitted Games at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, Cal. This event was for high school classes (2026-2028), and gives our staff an ample look at the area's top uncommitted prospects across these classes.
The 19 players in attendance began their day undergoing athletic testing utilizing VALD with a 60 yard sprint including 10-yard, 30-yard and max run speed, while also measuring their athleticism via jump testing (max vertical and RSI tests). From there the players participated in an on field batting practice session with each hitter taking between 15-20 swings to gather Trackman Technologies batted ball data and Blast Motion swing data. The workout concluded with defensive evaluations including arm velocity readings. After the workout wrapped up the players competed in a simulated game over eight full innings of play (three live pitchers / the rest off velocity machine) allowing our staff plenty of game-like evaluations.
Today, we will take a dive into the top overall performers from the workout and simulated game at the High Desert Uncommitted Game.

Damian Cordero SS / 2B / Highland Aquinas, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 93 / POS: 24
Cordero entered the event as the highest ranked player attending across the three different grad classes at AVC. The Inland Empire product lived up to his present billing of ability if not even exceeded it a bit with his overall performance. Showing solid present athletic ability with a 7.1 range 60 yard dash time (running into a stiff wind of over 20+ MPH) he has the athletic ability to stick up the middle as an INF defender. His actions, smooth hands, bouncy footwork and present 87 MPH INF arm velocity with accuracy to the bag was on display during the workout and sim game where he looks the part of a potential long term SS who can capably handle the other two INF spots, if necessary. During the batting practice portion of the day his 98 MPH max exit velocity was amongst the top three of players in attendance while his 92.1 MPH average EV was good for second best. The swing itself for Cordero possesses several interesting traits that produce now as a high school player, but bode well for his future including 22.7 MPH hand speed, 74.4 MPH bat speed, and the ability to generate torque in his turn with 18.7 Gs of rotational acceleration. While the workout was impressive for Cordero it wasn't the sole reason he appears as one of the top players at the event because he backed it up with his sim game performance. Damian tapped into his offensive impact by launching a ball to LCF for a triple (which if the wind had not been blowing out towards RF likely would have had a strong chance of leaving the yard. A transfer into the powerhouse Aquinas High School program after two strong years at Yucaipa High School in the Inland Empire Cordero is a must name to know for the 2027 recruiting class.

Sean Downs 3B / 1B / Rancho Christian School, CA / 2026Downs continues on an upward trend as an offensive player who put together one of the more impressive days offensively at the High Desert Uncommited Games. With a reworked frame that has added significant strength while getting more athletic Downs is tapping into power at the plate both during BP and in gameplay. During the workout of the day Downs was tied for second with a max EV of 99.7 MPH while topping the event with an average EV of 93.2 MPH. The impact in his bat comes from a swing that has strong swing metrics across the board starting with his 21.3 MPH hand speed, 71.6 MPH bat speed and ability to rotate with 14.1 Gs of roational acceleration. The quality of his swing is backed up by his now 6' 193.3 lbs. frame that showed consistent feel for rhythm and timing to accurately find his barrel. Downs strong workout carried into the game play portion where he stung several balls, but put the exclamation more on the day when he lofted a ball to the opposite field with authority that carried over the RCF wall for an opposite field homer. |

Parker Medlin C / OF / Paraclete, CA / 2028Medlin was the youngest player in attendance, but not only held his own against the older competition actually made a strong statement to his present ability and future upside. The wiry built, but athletic Medlin stands at 5'7 and in the 135 lbs. range at present, but has room to fill strength on his frame as he continues to mature. He possesses strong mobility in his lower 1/2 which allows him to present low targets, stick low pitches with his base helping him to handle the pitch, quickness in his block and an upward trending arm which lived on the bag all day long with his throws at hip to knee height consistently (popped a low of 2.03 on the day with a 73 MPH C velocity). A present 7.41 60 yard runner who will get faster as he keeps adding strength to his frame looks the part of long term athletic backstop. His offensive continues to trend up now getting near the benchmark 90 MPH max EV range as he topped at 89.1 MPH while averaging 81 MPH from a line drive based stroke that produces 19.3 MPH hand speed, 67.1 MPH bat speed and rotateds with 10.9 Gs of rotational acceleration. While the workout for Medlin was intriguing he showed that he can handle himself on the field with older players picking up multiple knocks during the sim game to the opposite field while working quality innings behind the dish receiving. With plenty of time to continue developing in the 2028 class, but already possessing the strong foundation of abilities Parker has keep your eyes out for this high desert product. |

Nelson Diaz OF / SS / Ruben S. Ayala, CA / 2027Diaz was a late addition to the roster at the High Desert Uncommitted Game, but his presence was immediatlely felt. His profile is well rounded with athleticism (6.98 runner in the 60 yard dash) that has an accurate 79 MPH OF arm (showed well throwing into the stiff wind). At the plate it's a short/direct RH swing that works to stay on top of the baseball consistently while accurately finding his barrel. Diaz peaked at 97.3 MPH on his max EV with a 71% sweet spot rate and 42% hard hit rate throughout his rounds of batting practice. The RH hitter relies on explosive hands which were at 24.7 MPH on Blast Motion while generating impressive torque during his turn peaking at 23.3 Gs of rotational acceleration. He lived on the barrel throughout his rounds with low line drives which when the game started turned into multiple extra base hits including a ringing line drive into the LCF gap where he burned around the bases for an inside the park homer. On a day where the wind created havoc on any ball in the air especially from straightaway CF to the RF line Diaz made a trio of high quality catches including one drifting towards the RF foul line where he stayed with the ball to make a great catch. Then for good measure with the OF starting to play deep to compete against the balls carrying in the wind he was able to get an impressive read/first step on a hard line drive in front of him and come charging in to take away a knock. Hailing from the consistently strong Ayala baseball program in Southern California Diaz should garner some following from college coaches looking for top of the order potential bats who can defend in CF. |

Hector Anaya SS / 2B / quartz hill high school, CA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 258 / POS: 55
Anaya made his debut on the Prep Baseball California event platform in his backyard by attending the High Desert Uncommitted Game. The short trip gave Anaya the opportunity to showcase everything I saw from in a live look during the 2025 CIF-Southern Section High School season. Checking in at 5'10 147.9 lbs at present Anaya is wiry in build, but strong on talent as a baseball player who possesses solid tools across the board. Running a 7.4 60 yard time which will get faster as he adds strength onto his wiry frame at present while showing an accurate smooth 80 MPH INF arm which plays in workouts, but even better in game with his quick transfer and confidence throwing from different angles he looks the part of a long term INF defender with solid to strong ability. As much as I like what Anaya does on the defensive side of the game it was the high level consistency to his offensive ability that really stood out for me on the day. During BP the RH hitter lived up the middle to the opposite field with a compact swing that produced 21.4 MPH hand speed, 66 MPH bat speed while rotating with 17.3 Gs of rotational acceleration in the turn. Anaya produced a 63% sweet spot rate while peaking at 91.2 MPH on his max exit velocity spraying line drives all over the field. His profile is strongly trended towards a present hit tool which played in game with multiple hits all working from the middle to opposite side of the field with hard contact. Anaya boasts present high level baseball ability with plenty to dream on about his physical frame/athleticism in the future that can still be developed that gives you more to dream on about an already strong player from the high desert. |

Noah Vasquez SS / 2B / Royal High School, CA / 2026On a Royal High School team filled with NCAA D1 commits it's easy for a player to fall under the radar, but Vasquez's showing at the High Desert Uncommitted Games gave evidence to a multitude of ability for him to play at the next level. Vasquez is solidly built at 5'9 183 lbs. with 7.5 present 60 yard speed that has solid burst to profile to his 2B/3B profile defensively. His hands are sound with consistent footwork and accuracy to his 78 MPH INF arm velocity. While the defensive ability for Vasquez is sound it's what he does in the RH batters box that really stood out for him on the day. His batting practice was very strong with a 97.1 MPH max EV, 90.5 MPH average EV, 60% hard hit rate, 349' max distance, 231' average distance all good for top five amongst players in attendance. His 80% sweet spot rate and 60% line drive rate during batting practice were tops in attendance. He gets there from a controlled, but strong operation in the box which features 21.4 MPH hand speed, 71.1 MPH bat speed, 17 Gs of rotational acceleration on Blast Motion. Once the game play portion started up Vasquez turned it up another notch at the dish with multiple well hit baseballs, but he put the exclamation mark on the day by rocketing a ball to the deepest part of Antelope Valley College which carried over the fence about five feet to the RCF side of the batters eye for a homer. |

Nick Gonzales SS / OF / Highland High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 151 / POS: 39
Gonzales was a standout at the Central California Preseason All State held at AVC during January of 2025 to kickstart a strong year for Gonzales in front of our staff which culminates now in another impressive performance. An upward trending athlete who shows long term athleticism to stick up the middle with 6.82 60 yard dash speed, intriguing present arm strength (88 MPH from the OF / 85 MPH from the INF) natural instincts for his angles/reads and sound footwork/hands he can defend at either SS/2B or CF now or in the future. The RH hitter features a deeper hand load in his operation at the box, but it works for him as he has a consistently strong feel for finding the barrel on time. During batting practice Nick produced strong metrics with a 96 MPH max EV while staying to hard line drive contact that produced a max distance of 328' with a 53% sweet spot rate on his contact. His hands are fast from the deeper load position with 23.6 MPH hand speed while showing upward trending bat speed now at 72.4 MPH with aggressiveness in his turn to produce 21.4 Gs of rotational acceleration. He carried over the strong workout portion of his day into the game living on the barrel throughout again with hard contact from the middle to opposite side of the field. Gonzales looks the part of potential RH hitting leadoff hitter with feel to hit, speed to create impact/chaos, up the defensive ability and solid arm strength in the 2027 class for college programs to be keeping tabs on. |

Miles Herbert SS / 2B / San Marcos Senior High, CA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 207 / POS: 42
Herbert made the 2+ hour drive from the Central Coast of California out to the High Desert to be apart of the event. Athletically built at 5'11 161.8 lbs. Herbert boasts a strong set off tools across the board that all showed up during the workout. He opened the day showing off sound present running ability to clock at 7.0 60 yard time (which translates into game action), athletic actions moving around at SS showing natural confidence to play downhill with one hand, feel to throw on the run and the ability to stick his foot in the ground while throwing accurately with a 84 MPH INF arm. At the plate his swing has intent in the operation showing strong present Blast Motion metrics with 22.8 MPH of hand speed (third in event), 77.4 MPH bat speed (tops in the event) and 22.4 Gs of rotational acceleration in the turn (fourth in the event). The path for Herbert works uphill looking to drive the ball in the air to the middle of the field and with his present bat speed, ability to rotate and strong barrel feel he produces some intriguing present contact metrics on Trackman. Herbert tied for second with a 99.7 MPH max exit velocity and 369' max distance while averaging 90 MPH on his EVs throughout his rounds. With the uphill path he can top the ball at times with top spin, but when he connects through the bottom half the ball jumps and as he continues to develop his consistency for that contact point there is intriguing impact in the offensive profile During the game play portion of the event Herbert showed off his feel for defense taking charge moving around the INF to defend at a strong level at multiple spots, but looks to be a long term strong SS profile defender. At the dish he used his athleticism/burst to beat out a pair of INF hits including one where he posted a top level 4.14 seconds home to 1B time. |
