Quick Hits: 2025 Hahnville Scout Day

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Boutte, LA - On Saturday, December 13, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the Hahnville High School, to host our second annual Hahnville Scout Day, which featured prospects from Hahnville High School in the 2026-2029 classes.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing live to hitters with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Satruday's event.

Koa Romero 3B / RHP / Hahnville, LA / 2027

At 5-foot-10, 220 pounds, Romero brings a compact, physical frame with real impact strength, and his showing on Saturday may have been the loudest single-day performance I’ve seen in my six years scouting amateur baseball in the Bayou State.

The LSU recruit wasted no time setting the tone, opening the day with a 6.92 laser-timed 60, a personal best. He followed that up with a crisp round of defensive work, showcasing soft hands, clean actions, and a big-time arm across the diamond that peaked at 91 mph—another personal best.

Then came the part that had the entire ballpark buzzing. Romero delivered two jaw-dropping rounds of BP, launching majestic shots to all parts of the yard with eye-opening ease. Working from a simple, low-maintenance setup with minimal pre-pitch movement and a controlled toe-tap load, he stays tight and connected through his turn, allowing a heavy barrel to work through the zone with authority. The result? A 107.9 mph max exit velocity, the highest we’ve ever recorded at a Prep Baseball event in Louisiana, and every bit of that power translated against live pitching. In his first at-bat of the day, he hammered a slider down and away for a laser line-drive HR to left-center.

As if the positional profile wasn’t enough, Romero then grabbed the baseball and dominated on the mound. He overwhelmed hitters with a 91–95 mph fastball featuring explosive life through the zone, and paired it with a tight, late-breaking 78–80 mph slider that spun up to 2,553 rpm.

Romero looks primed for a massive junior campaign for the Tigers, and if Saturday’s performance is any indication, Louisiana may have its own high school version of Shohei Ohtani—a true two-way force with game-changing ability on both sides of the ball.

Landen Teague SS / 3B / Hahnville, LA / 2027

Fresh off the football field, where he lines up as his team’s QB1, Teague impressed at Saturday’s workout despite not yet being in full baseball form. He’s a quality all-around athlete, and that showed early as he turned in a 6.97 laser-timed 60, flashing an above-average run tool.

On the infield, Teague displayed smooth, confident actions with solid glove work and the ability to change arm slots on the move. His throws carried with accuracy across the diamond, topping at 84 mph.

At the plate, he hits from a balanced setup and does a nice job maintaining body control during his forward move. Teague’s loose wrists and strong hands allow him to whip the barrel through the zone with intent, consistently getting out front to impact the baseball. He showed emerging power to the pull side, posting exit velocities up to 98.6 mph.

College recruiters in need of an athletic infielder in the 2027 class should have Teague firmly on their follow list—he’s a name worth getting eyes on this spring.

Landon Parrish 2B / RHP / Hahnville High School, LA / 2028

Parrish unquestionably showed some of the most intriguing pure stuff at the entire event on Saturday. The sophomore right-hander is an athletic mover down the mound with a loose, easy arm action that projects well.

His 80–82 mph fastball played up thanks to elite spin rates up to 2,696 rpm, giving the pitch sneaky life through the zone and the kind of carry that misses barrels. He paired it with one of the better breaking balls we’ve seen to date in the state’s 2028 class—a 72–73 mph, 11–5 shaped curveball with late bite and impressive spin rates ranging 2,716–2,803 rpm.

Feel for spin at this age is often one of the strongest indicators of future velocity jumps, and Parrish checks that box in a big way. As he matures physically and adds strength, there’s every reason to believe his arsenal—and his ceiling—will continue to climb.

Brayden Fontenot 2B / OF / Hahnville High School, LA / 2027

At 5-foot-8, 170 pounds with a sturdy lower half, Fontenot earned meaningful varsity innings for the Tigers as a sophomore and now looks primed to take another step forward this spring. He’s a dependable defender on the infield, showing confident hands, clean actions, and the ability to stay under control through the play.

Offensively, Fontenot showcased advanced bat-to-ball skills with a true line-drive approach. He consistently drove the baseball to the opposite-field gap, demonstrating an innate ability to get the barrel on plane early and stay through extension for a long time. It’s a hitterish profile with more impact likely to come as he continues to mature.

Matthew Plaisance RHP / Hahnville, LA / 2027

Plaisance is another key returner who turned in a strong sophomore campaign for the Tigers, serving as one of Hahnville’s most reliable arms and earning Second Team All-District honors in the process. While he’s not a pure power arm, the junior right-hander excels by working with tempo, filling up the strike zone, and disrupting timing to consistently generate weak contact.

He pitched his fastball in the 81–83 mph range and showed the ability to locate it to both sides of the plate. Plaisance paired it with a bigger, near 12–6 shaped curveball at 67–70 mph that he can land for strikes at will. He also mixed in a 70–72 mph changeup with subtle fade, and even showcased a low-70s knuckleball that he confidently landed for a strikeout.

Plaisance’s pitchability, competitiveness, and feel for a true four-pitch mix make him a valuable piece of the Tigers’ staff once again this spring.

Eli Landry SS / OF / Hahnville, LA / 2027

A true “jack-of-all-trades,” Landry showcased his versatility at Saturday’s workout and projects as a valuable piece for this year’s Hahnville squad. In the outfield, he flashed a strong arm up to 89 mph, and he proved he can handle the infield as well, posting 86 mph across the diamond with clean actions.

At the plate, Landry profiles as a contact-oriented, all-fields hitter who shows feel for the barrel and the ability to execute in a variety of situations. He also jumped on the mound and demonstrated that he can give the Tigers quality innings when needed.

Landry’s multi-positional value and competitiveness make him the type of player who helps a team win in a lot of different ways.
