Today, we will take a look at some of the standout performers from the Sacramento Preseason ID.

Top Performers

Rusty Ducharme C / 1B / Del Oro High, CA / 2027

Rusty Ducharme (Class of 2027, C/1B, 6’3”, 224 lbs) stood out immediately with a powerful, physical build and impressive athleticism for his size, posting a 7.29 60-yard dash, 18.6 mph max run speed, 24.6-inch vertical, 1.34 RSI, and event-best grip strength (R: 183.4, L: 188.7), while moving fluidly and explosively throughout the workout; at the plate, he showed legitimate power potential with a 101.9 mph max exit velocity, 90.3 mph average EV, 374 ft max distance, and 81.6 mph max bat speed, driving the ball consistently to the middle and opposite-field gap. Although there were some timing inconsistencies, the ball came off the bat with authority when his swing synced up. Defensively, Ducharme was the top catcher at the event, recording 76 mph throws with 2.06–2.10 pop times, showing strong arm strength, quick transfers, and overall confidence behind the plate, making him a high-upside 2027 catching prospect with strength, power, and athleticism for the position.

Joey Dormann RHP / 1B / Rio Americano High, CA / 2027

Joey Dormann (Class of 2027, RHP/1B, 6’2”, 193 lbs) owned an ideal pitcher’s frame with long limbs, broad shoulders, and room for continued strength gains, supported by strong grip strength numbers (R: 144.7, L: 129.7) and solid athleticism that translated well on the mound; he was the top velocity arm at the event, sitting 82.8–84 mph and touching 84.5 with a fastball that showed advanced carry (2230+ RPM, up to 22.2" IVB, 5.8" HM), giving it true riding life in the zone, while his curveball (70.5–72 mph, 2300+ RPM, -14.3" IVB, -9.2" HM) featured sharp vertical drop and his slider (73–77 mph, 2350+ RPM, -11.4" HM) showed late lateral bite, giving him a legitimate three-pitch mix with strikeout potential. Offensively, Dormann showed solid bat-to-ball skills and emerging power with a 95.1 mph max exit velocity, 83.7 mph average EV, and a 347 ft max distance, along with 79 mph infield velocity, but his primary projection was clearly on the mound as a high-upside right-handed pitcher. Dromann will be a key part in the success, of a young and talented Rio Americano squad.

Cooper Lunsford SS / 2B / Bear River High, CA / 2027

Cooper Lunsford (2027, SS/2B, 5’9” 185 lbs) stood out as one of the most dynamic athletes at the event, posting the best 60-yard dash time at 6.72 with a 20.1 mph top run speed, showing true quick-twitch speed and explosiveness. His lower-half metrics (26.6" vertical, 1.27 RSI) support his athletic profile, while elite grip strength (147.4R / 147.8L) points to strong hands and bat control. Offensively, Lunsford swung it exceptionally well, producing a 100 mph max exit velocity, 87.9 mph average EV, and a 378-foot max distance with an impressive 76.4 mph max bat speed, consistently impacting the baseball with authority. Defensively, his range and athleticism fit the middle infield profile, though his arm strength (73 INF velo) will need to continue improving for him to project as a true shortstop long-term. Overall, Lunsford profiles as an explosive, high-energy middle infielder whose speed and offensive tools separate him from the pack, with defensive refinement as the key area for growth.

Nat Ha SS / 2B / Vista del Lago High, CA / 2028

Nat Ha (2028, SS/2B, 5’11” 153 lbs) showed athletic movement and solid baseball actions across the board, posting a 7.22 60-yard dash with an 18.6 mph top run speed and a 27-inch vertical, reflecting functional quickness and lower-half explosiveness. Defensively, Ha moved well in the infield with smooth actions, clean footwork, and good glove presentation, projecting comfortably at second base, while his arm strength (74 INF / 76 OF) may limit long-term viability at shortstop unless it continues to develop. At the plate, Ha produced loud contact with a 99.3 mph max exit velocity, 89.8 mph average EV, and a 363-foot max distance, consistently driving the ball to the gaps and showing above-average bat speed (68.4 mph). His grip strength (98.9 / 104.6L) supports the power potential as his frame continues to mature, and overall he profiles as a well-rounded middle infielder with offensive upside and room for physical growth.

Mason Newhouse 1B / RHP / Oak Ridge High, CA / 2027

Mason Newhouse (2027, 1B/RHP, 6’6” 249 lbs) was the most physically imposing athlete at the event and backed it up with strong overall performance. Despite his massive frame, he ran well with a 7.43 60-yard dash and an 18.3 mph top run speed, showing better-than-expected athleticism and mobility, along with a 22.4-inch vertical and 1.02 RSI. Defensively, Newhouse moved comfortably around the infield and showed solid arm strength (84 INF velo) with accurate throws, projecting well at first base with the potential for mound work. At the plate, he showcased legitimate power, consistently driving the ball with authority and clearing the hitter’s eye in batting practice, posting a 106.8 max EV, 101.3 mph average exit velocity, a 413-foot max distance, and a 76.6 mph max bat speed. With elite grip strength (138.3R / 127.5L) and a strength-based build, Newhouse profiles as a true power bat whose physical presence and offensive upside make him a high-impact corner player moving forward.

Kyonosuke Yura SS / RHP / Berkeley High, CA / 2027

Kyonosuke Yura (2027, SS/RHP, 5’10” 177 lbs) showed notable improvement from last year’s PSAS at Ohlone College and stood out as the strongest-armed infielder at the event, posting an 85 mph infield velocity with carry and accuracy. Athletically, Yura recorded a 7.35 60-yard dash with an 18.4 mph top run speed, along with a 22-inch vertical and an impressive 1.28 RSI, highlighting his quick-twitch ability and lower-half explosiveness. Defensively, his arm strength gives him a legitimate chance to remain on the left side of the infield, while continued refinement of footwork and consistency will further solidify his shortstop profile. Offensively, Yura showed solid bat speed (75.1 mph) and produced a 98.1 mph max exit velocity with a 351-foot max distance, demonstrating the ability to drive the ball with authority. With strong grip strength (135.7R / 125.5L) and continued physical development, Yura projects as a well-rounded two-way middle infielder with a premium defensive tool and growing offensive upside.
