‘26 LHP Jared Grindlinger, Huntington Beach - Tennessee Signee
After reclassifying up a grade, Grindlinger has become a must-see for MLB Scouts and with 40+ in attendance in this outing against Garcia (above), Grindlinger showed why he is likely a middle of the first round pick. In addition to only being 16-years old, Grindlinger’s ability to pitch with three pitches that all flash above average potential, was on full display. His fastball at 92-95 mph is electric with its arm-side run and late life as it enters the zone. He is able to mix locations and attacks spots with the savvy of a pitcher much older than he currently is. His slider might be his best pitch at 82-83 mph as it proved to be unhittable in this outing, inducing 11 whiffs as he used it as a putaway pitch on several occasions. Grindlinger flashes two changeups - one a traditional circle change and a newly developed kick change - and both are already elite pitches. He kills spin on the changeup (83-84 mph) at 880 rpm as the pitch simply falls off the table. Grindlinger showed the ability to tunnel all pitches from the same slot and release point making it nearly impossible for a hitter to guess right. I’ve seen Grindlinger throw now for two-and-a-half years and this was as good as I’ve seen him, leaving scouts with more answers than questions about his future potential.
