Uncommitted Spotlight: Jackson Brenna
November 19, 2020
We continue our coverage of uncommitted players, spotlighting them to help maximize their exposure and assist them in the recruiting process. Today, we look at 2021 LHP/1B Jackson Brenna (Shadow Ridge).
+ 2021 LHP/1B Jackson Brenna (Shadow Ridge)- Brenna has been on the PBR radar for awhile now as his upside as a left-handed pitcher and left-handed bat with power potential emerged early. We have been able to see him plenty over the last two years. His body catches the eye at 6-foot-3 200-pounds with strength and some athleticism that has improved with powerful actions. We have seen him sit in the mid 80's on the mound in bullpens on a few different occasions. He's also touched those numbers in starts in live game action but tends to sit in the lower 80's at times. When he's on and pounding the strike zone, he has some above average stuff. If the consistency can pick up between the lines, there is some higher upside there in the future. Brenna's bat could also be a bonus for a program looking to add some depth at first base. Brenna shows some two-way potential, hitting in the middle order for Shadow Ridge. We have seen Brenna go on some stretches where he's consistently driving the ball with good pop to RF. Again, with added consistency Brenna can help a program in a number of different ways, his progress should be followed.
Scouting Report
6’2 190-pound frame with current strength and more room to add on. Starts with a relaxed, upright stance that’s slightly open. Strides to get square. Elevated the ball well with backspin through the middle of the field. Exit velo was 89 MPH. Good job at 1B getting feet under him to make throws to 2B. Rhythm with feet allowed for accurate throws. Arm was 80 across the infield. Fastball was 80-82 from a ¾ slot with good downhill plane. Throws across body, adding angle to his release. Fastball was mainly to glove side. Breaking ball had good shape but struggling getting into counts to use it. As he gets more time on the mound, he will turn into a two-way prospect.
