2025 High School Preview: Lewiston Bengals

The 2025 Idaho High School baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Idaho.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in their respective State Championship Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview these individual programs across Idaho. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power Rankings.

2024 Record: 14-11
+ No. Returning Positional Starters: 7
+ No. Returning Pitchers: 5
Lewiston enters the 2025 season returning a majority of starters from last spring, including seven positional players and five arms who will look to lead the program deep into the post season. The core of this team is made up by the 2026 class. The team is under the leadership of Darren Trainor, he speaks highly of his players using words such as "electric", "competitor", and "strike thrower". This offense had 58 stolen bases in their 25 games last season and a team BA of .324. The Bengals look to make their way into the post season this spring.
TOP RETURNING PLAYERS
Of the many Bengals starters returning this year '26 SS Guy Krasselt (Uncommitted) is one that looks to help lead Lewiston offensively and defensively, of the many stolen bases last season Krasselt had 12 of them, and having only 3 errors in 76 chances last spring. The next is described as the Bengals speedy center fielder '26 OF Tucker Green (Uncommitted), is is sophomore campaign Green stole 26 bases, with an OBP of .400 and looks to cover a lot of ground in the outfield.
'26 RHP Austin Topp (Uncommitted) as a sophomore Topp posted a 2.08 ERA and went 3-2 on the mound with 33.2 innings pitched. He is an athlete on the mound and will be a strong contributor defensivley. '26 INF Keatan Phillips (Uncommitted) was a strong bat for the Bengals last season, he led the team in BA last spring with a .292, his bat to ball skills have developed and he looks to contribute in a big way. Lastly, '26 RHP Zack Bambacigno RHP (Uncommited), described as a competitor on the mound, in his innings last season he showed that is a strike thrower, and has developed into a leader on the staff for the Bengals.
TOP NEWCOMERS
Highland's top newcomers are thought of as some of the team's top underclass players and they'll have the ability to make an impact on the program for years to come. Though there are many returning one newcomer that stands out is '28 Grady Peterson (Uncommited), he is a left handed hitter with developing power as he continues to get stronger. Another freshman that make his way into the mix is '28 INF Jackson Casey (Uncommitted), Casey is a smooth left handed hitting infielder that has already made a mark on the coaches with his defensive ability, and his quality approach at the plate.
The Bengals have '27 Ty Collins MIF (Uncommitted), looks to fight for a chance in the line up this year. He has strong presence in the box, and shows his disciplined approach making him a tough out, and his development has shown this offseason. '27 RHP Zavier McFee (Uncommited) is a young arm with a high ceiling of potential for the Bengals. He has a chance to eat up some quality innings this spring with his competitive nature on the mound and ability to locate the ball well.
With a strong crop of returning upperclassmen, as well as a jolt of production from their guys moving up through the program. Lewiston looks to be a strong contender this year in the 5A class and find a way into the State Tournament.
