The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

Take a look at a few games and players that stood out over the past few weeks of play.

*Schools and player names are in alphabetical order.*

*If a player does not have a profile, we do not have the ability to feature them in a story.*

Albemarle

James Rolf RHP / SS / ALBEMARLE HIGH, VA / 2025

Clover Hill

Carson Hupp OF / LHP / CLOVER HILL HIGH, VA / 2026

James Nigriny 3B / RHP / CLOVER HILL HIGH, VA / 2027

Highland Springs

Elijah Archer OF / 1B / HIGHLAND SPRINGS HIGH, VA / 2028

The highly ranked freshman had a standout night, helping his team come away with the victory. He has a physical frame with strength present. At the plate, it's a balanced setup with a simple load and stride, before firing through the zone with a fast, slightly uphill barrel path. Archer recorded a hit in all three at-bats, collecting a triple, double and two runs batted in. On his triple (video below) he showed the ability to get out of the box well and has improved his run tool since last summer. Through ten games so far on the season, he is batting over .400 and slugging over .800. This 2028 graduate is a name to know.

Reggie Thomas II 3B / OF / HIGHLAND SPRINGS HIGH, VA / 2026

Thomas II was also a major contributor to the Highland Springs win, picking up two hits and a run batted in. He has a relaxed, upright setup with a leg kick stride and is aggressive in the box,  attacking his pitch early in counts. Batting .500 with three home runs through ten games, it is safe to say he has been seeing the ball well. He made all of his plays at shorstop, and late in this game, with The Springers trying to hold onto the lead, he made an incredible diving play up the middle to end the inning.

James River

Jayden Grant SS / RHP / James River, VA / 2026

Nate Reed RHP / OF / James River (Midlothian), VA / 2026

The College of Charleston commit has an imposing six-foot-five frame. He worked exclusively from the stretch from a higher three-quarters slot. Through his first two innings of work he was filling up the zone with 67 percent strikes thrown. He showed confidence in his ability to locate three pitches in any count. His fastball was up to 90 mph, working both sides of the plate. The slider, as well as the changeup, induced some ugly swings from the opposition.

Lake Braddock

Beau Padgett RHP / 3B / LAKE BRADDOCK SECONDARY, VA / 2026

Louisa County

Eric Davis OF / LHP / LOUISA COUNTY HIGH, VA / 2026

Hunter Luck 2B / Louisa, VA / 2026

Manchester

Tyson Penepacker OF / RHP / MANCHESTER HIGH, VA / 2026

Matoaca

Hayden Campbell 1B / RHP / MATOACA HIGH, VA / 2027

This is my second time seeing Campbell this year, and both outings have been solid. The sophomore has a six-foot-three frame with a compact arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. His fastball has some late life to it and was up to 83 mph. In this game, he went three innings, struck out three, and didn't allow a run.

Gray Thacker 2B / 3B / Matoaca, VA / 2025

Monacan

Brady McCormack RHP / 1B / MONACAN HIGH, VA / 2027

Grayson Morris 3B / RHP / MONACAN HIGH, VA / 2027

The six-foot-two, 2027 graduate had an intriguing day last Monday. Morris has a relaxed, upright setup with some rhythm in the hands and a toe-tap stride. He picked up three hits in the game, including a clutch double in extra innings to drive in a run and help contribute to the win. Defensively, at shortstop, he made the routine plays, showcasing natural hands with quick transfers. A sophomore to keep an eye on.

Jack Sams OF / LHP / Monacan High School , VA / 2025

In both of the games seeing Sams this year, I've been impressed with his comfort in the box. He has a relaxed setup, simple load and stride with a smooth, slightly uphill barrel path. In the first inning, he caught a hanging breaking pitch up in the zone and sent a no-doubt home run to right field.

West Springfield

Aaron Dierks RHP / 1B / WEST SPRINGFIELD HIGH, VA / 2026

The Future Games alum and South Carolina commit has an imposing six-foot-three build. He has a long arm action from a high three-quarters slot. His fastball topped out at 90 mph and featured a unique shape with some natural cutting action. After a few defensive mistakes early, Dierks settled in very well and was able to throw a dominant complete game. Striking out ten and surrendering no earned runs, it was a tough night at the yard for the opposition.

Sean McMahon OF / SS / WEST SPRINGFIELD HIGH, VA / 2025
