Langley Blaze Invitational: Alberta's Standouts

Jaxson Smith-Peterson
Lead Scout, Western Canada

Our staff recently attended over a dozen games at the annual Langley Blaze Invitational. As usual, the Tournament featured several teams from Alberta. Below, we spotlight eight players from Alberta who stood out to our staff at the LBI.

Gabe Fink RHP / OF / AHP Academy, AB / 2027

Fink took the mound in the first game we saw at McLeod and was even better than advertised. In an outstanding complete game shutout performance, Fink struck out nine while conceding just two hits and a single walk. Fink’s fastball sat 86-88 MPH, topping out at 89. The AHP product also displayed a tight slider with late movement in the 79-82 MPH range. Fink will be a centrepiece on the Prep Baseball Canada pitching staff at the Future Games and is a name College Coaches should pay close attention to as we approach August 1.

AJ Rogers RHP / Okotoks, AB / 2025

Rogers got the ball for Okotoks in the heavyweight matchup of the tournament vs the Langley Blaze and did not disappoint. The 6-foot-6 right-hander turned in a complete game, 1 earned run performance. The ride/run heater sat 87-89, topping out at 90 in the 1st. Rogers settled in at 84-87 while also leaning on a slider at 78-80 and a changeup at 74-76 with late fade. Both offspeed pitches showed as above average in the outing. Equipped with a starter's arsenal and a frame to dream on, Rogers is certainly a candidate to catch some helium over the next year.

Stone Foster C / 1B / Rundle College, AB / 2025/2026

Foster is a ‘26 eligible backstop who stood out on a Webber team that went 2-0 in front of our staff. It’s a muscular 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame with evident strength. Foster displayed pop times between 2.08 and 2.14 in between innings. In the box, Stone came up with a clutch RBI hit in the Wildcats first game on Saturday and followed it up with a loud home run in game two. Foster has the makings of a quality pickup for schools over the next year.

Bode Lynch C / RHP / Foothills Composite High School, AB / 2027

Bode is another premier arm in Alberta’s 2027 class who is set to represent Canada at the Future Games. The strong 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander went toe-to-toe with Fink in an absolute gem of a baseball game. Lynch showed intriguing stuff while putting together a complete game of his own. The fastball lived 84-86, topping out at 87 with feel for a quality breaking pitch. Bode has been on our radar for some time, dating back to his days as BC’s #1 ranked 2027 and will make for a very interesting follow over the next two years.

Daril Rodriguez OF / St. Joseph High School, AB / 2027

This was our first in-game look at Rodriguez, who quickly made a name for himself upon making the move to Canada from the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez hit two doubles in front of our staff while working several walks. The arm talent stood out in-game for Rodriguez, who posted an outfield velocity of 91 MPH on the Winter showcase circuit. Daril is an outfielder to keep tabs on out of Red Deer.

Dominik Morgan C / OF / Archbishop Jordan, AB / 2025

Morgan is a West Coast Games alumni who led that event in multiple offensive and defensive categories. Dom put together another quality showing at the Langley Blaze Invitational, where he threw out two attempted base stealers while also recording a backpick at first base in a big spot. Morgan showed above-average bat-to-ball skills (0K/11PA) before exploding for a loud double to the opposite field late in the tournament. The former Canadian Junior National Team backstop appears primed to make an impact at Crowder this fall.

Cohen Miller SS / RHP / National Sport School, AB / 2026

Miller put together another quality performance in front of our staff last week in Langley. The former Future Gamer looked the part at shortstop, showing off above-average range and a strong arm. At the plate, Miller impacted the game out of the 2-hole, showing off the same free and easy swing with some twitch. Miller shined on several big stages over the last year and is a name for College Coaches to check in on this summer.

Nicholas Westendorp RHP / 1B / Webber Academy, AB / 2025

Westendorp put together a very impressive weekend on both sides of the ball. The Coffeyville commit hopped on the mound for Webber’s first game and displayed a low effort delivery and clean arm action, topping out at 86 MPH with quality secondary pitches. Offensively, the big right-hander delivered a 2/3 performance in game two that included a monster home run to the pull side. Westendorp seems like he has a real chance to do both at the college level and will be a big part of Webber’s success for the remainder of his Senior season.
