Scouting Report
2017 Spring Scout Blog: The junior lefthander started on the mound and had an impressive outing against a good hitting lineup. The 6'2", 190 pound Indiana commit threw 6 innings of 1 hit baseball, only giving up 1 run on a solo homerun, and striking out 9 hitters. Delivery is polished, with hips and lower half working well down the mound, getting good extension out front. Small twist at the top, creates some deception and makes fastball jump on hitters. High 3/4 arm and arm swing are clean. Lot of twitch in the athletic body. Commanded both sides of the plate with the fastball having big arm side run to the outer half, getting lots of swing and misses. Fastball was 87-88, good downward action with some late life. Breaking ball was plus pitch at 74-76mph with late downward, wipeout action off the fastball plane. Played CF in the 7th inning and made a diving catch to save a run. Athletic two way prospect that has high ceiling in the 2018 class.
2/19/17: 6-foot-2, 186 pound outfielder, athletic/strong frame. Offensively, the left-handed hitter hits from an athletic/crouch type setup, smooth load, leg kick timing trigger. Good use over his lower half with balance throughout the swing. Possesses quick hands to the baseball, gets to extension. Good swing plane. Line drive hitter with gap power. Showed lots of pop to his pull-side. Quick bat speed. Registered a high exit velocity of 88 mph. Defensively, possesses athletic actions with soft hands, fluid feet, quick/clean exchange. Long, high ¾ arm action with carry at 85 mph. Ran a 6.88 in the laser timed 60 yard dash. Indiana commit.
8/2/15 FUTURE GAMES: The 6-foot-2, 175 pound Richardson was a late addition to Team Indiana at this year's Future Games, but was easily one of the most impressive players on the roster. He's a legitimate prospect both on the mound and at the plate, possessing tons of athleticism and quick-twitch. On the mound the southpaw showcased a fastball up to 86 mph with quick arm speed from a long, loose high 3/4 arm action. He flashed a few breaking balls at 72-73 showing depth and bite. Offensively, the LHH possesses quick bat speed with barrel whip. He's shown the ability to consistently get to extension producing hard hit line drives with projectable gap-to-gap power. Off the tee he recorded a high exit velocity of 91 mph. From the outfield he has plenty of arm strength, up to 91 mph, with athletic actions. At the Future Games he ran a 6.85-60. Richardson is ranked No. 24 in the overall 2018 rankings.
