2025 MLB Draft Follows
Sam Cozart, RHP, Wesleyan Christian Academy, 2025
The Texas commit showed high end stuff throughout the outing but the fastball ran into some barrels. Some effort in the delivery but Cozart, standing 6-foot-8, 235 pounds repeats from the wind and the stretch. Medium arm swing is early to the top, getting through an over-the-top slot. Solid arm speed. Arm strength over arm speed. Fastball worked at 91-94, touching 95 in the 1st and 2nd. Fastball played true with spin at 2150rpm. Flashed feel for the glove side, and an ability to elevate when ahead. Occasional misses were put on the barrel by a talented offensive group. Slider at 83-85 had late, sharp depth, missing bats in the zone and for chase. Slider was the best offering of the day. Threw a curveball the first time through the lineup at 78-79 with 10/4 tilt. Early action out of the hand resulted in a lot of takes on the pitch. Good hand speed and solid arm side run on the change at 82.
Josh Hammond, SS/RHP, Wesleyan Christian Academy, 2025
Wake Forest commit and one of the top prospects in the 2025 MLB Draft Class. Hammond had a full day of action with a lot of eyes on him at the talent rich event. During BP he displayed easy power, with excellent barrel feel. Rhythmic load, rocking back onto the back leg with a small leg kick. Good separation and load in the hands. Direct and flat, creating a lot of backspin with an ability to go gap-to-gap. Power to both sides of the field. Good actions on the infield. Lateral quickness is present. Quickness out weighs total speed. Has soft hands with trust in the hands. Good rhythm in the feet and hands. Has the ability to delay and chop the feet to match the hop he wants - consistently the right hop in the right spot on turf. Accurate arm with easy carry. Plenty of arm to play on the left side. In game, walked in his first at-bat and then found the barrel flying out to center before chasing 89 elevated in a strikeout.
In the 6th, Hammond came straight from SS to the mound mid-inning to close the inning. He faced three hitter, showcasing a fastball and slider that created swing and miss, with discomfort. Fastball at 94-96, touching 97. Ride through the zone, spinning at 2550 - 2760rpm. Hard late slider with 10/4 tilt. Horizontal action out weighs the depth. Slider at 82-83. Flashed a solid change-up at 86
