X-FACTOR
OF Brayden Robertson (2026; Illinois-Springfield commit) is one of the more well-rounded offensive players in the Panthers lineup, coming off a spring in which he hit .352 with three home runs, five doubles, 21 RBI and 14 stolen bases. The athletic right-handed hitter brings quality bat-to-ball ability, and his speed and instincts give him a chance to impact the game in multiple ways. He is also an above-average defender in the outfield with a strong, accurate arm that has been clocked at 89 mph. With Connor Blue (Cincinnati) now gone, Robertson steps into a larger role as one of the offensive leaders for an O'Fallon group looking to reload in 2026.
NEWCOMER TO WATCH
RHP Will Vanderheyden (2028) and OF/LHP Trey Hrasky (2028) are a pair of sophomores to keep an eye on for the Panthers this spring.
Vanderheyden is no stranger to our staff, and has seen a notable uptick in velocity heading into his sophomore year. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hander sits 86-87 mph with his fastball showing carry and life through the zone, and his curveball sits 72-74 mph with 12/6 shape. He also flashes a slider with short action and a mid-70s changeup. It would come as no surprise if Vanderheyden took on a big role for the Panther's rotation this spring.
Hrasky is an intriguing left/left prospect at 6-foot-1, 173 pounds who can impact the game in multiple ways. On the mound he sits in the low-80s and has been up to 85 mph, pairing it with a slider and changeup. At the plate he has an athletic swing that's posted a 93.6 mph max exit velocity, and he adds value in the outfield with an 85 mph arm. Both are names to know in the Metro East area heading into 2026.
TEAM OUTLOOK
O'Fallon enters 2026 looking to reload after losing All-State performer RHP/1B Connor Blue and SS Dane Hrasky (Central Missouri), but return seven position starters and a deep pitching staff that should keep them competitive in the Southwest Conference. "We are loaded on the mound and have a good core of our defense coming back," coach David Causey said, "We lost our main pitcher, fielder and bat but have a lot of young talent."
The offensive attack will be led by the aformentioned OF/SS Brayden Robertson (2026; Illinois Springfield), who hit .352 with 32 hits and 21 RBI last season while also contributing 4.2 innings on the mound. C/OF Asher Cantu (2026) provides another proven bat after posting a .326 average with 30 hits and 18 RBI, while INF Carson Bauer (2026; Drury University) rounds out the senior leadership group after hitting .303 with 23 hits and 11 RBI.
The pitching staff returns significant depth with RHP/OF Sam McCollum (2026; Drury University) leading the way after throwing 28.2 innings with a 3.42 ERA and 29 strikeouts. SS/RHP Liam Decker (2027) figures to contribute both ways after posting a 2.27 ERA in 12.1 innings last spring, while RHP/SS Will Vanderheyden (2028) and OF/LHP Trey Hrasky (2028) are a pair of sophomores pushing for expanded roles after showing well in front of our staff at the Preseason All-State Underclass event.
With seven returning position starters, four returning starting pitchers, and a capable group of underclassmen behind them, the Panthers have the pieces to make a run in the Southwest Conference and beyond in 2026.
BOTTOM LINE
Strong pitching depth and defensive experience give O'Fallon a solid foundation for another playoff run, though offensive production will determine if they can match last year's regional championship success.
