As we get going for the 2025 spring season, we start off our spring coverage the same way this year as we have the past two, with PDG Academy. Today we take a look at some video and notes on six players from the Fredericksburg based program.

Michael Cureton 3B / 1B / PDG Academy, MD / 2025The Radford recruit was a tough out at the plate where he had two hits on the day. He showed the ability to work in deep counts and use the backside of the field when needed. He covered the outer half of the plate on both of his hits for singles. There is minimal movement with rhythm in the hands that creates a short, level barrel path. There is a mix of physicality and athleticism that plays at the plate as well in the field with a corner defensive profile.

Riley Gibson RHP / OF / PDG, VA / 2025Lanky and thin frame with room to fill. Low three-quarter arm slot with a full arm swing and above average arm speed. Is down and out moving towards the plate, stays over the rubber, and lands closed at stride. The fastball lived 91-93 through three innings pitched, with more 91-92 than anything. Touched 94 twice and then 95 once in the first. The slider has more horizontal shape than depth and sits at 78-81 mph. It shows as more finisher than an early count strike pitch. Gibson also showed a few changeups at 83 and 85 mph. Third pitch right now and used more vs LHH. Liberty commit.

Zavion Jackson OF / OF / Henrico, VA / 2025Jackson showed some of his offensive upside. He picked up a very loud hit where had to turn on the wheels for a hustle double. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields with his strength towards the middle and pull side of the field. The position profile is still corner outfield and first base, but ultimately, the bat is what you're buying. Definitely a player that has an important spring ahead of him.

Brayden Mann C / 3B / PDG Academy, VA / 2025Mann had a very strong showing where he had a multi hit day at the dish. In his first at bat he showed some adjustability at the plate with two strikes and sent a ball through the backside for a single. He followed that up with arguably the hardest hit ball of the day with a double to deep left to bring in a couple runs. It was good to see the ability to hit with two strikes as well as turning the barrel showing off some power. There is position versatility with the sneaky athleticism in the 6-3 200-lb frame that allows him to play multiple positions.

Myles Mayse C / 3B / PDG Academy, VA / 2025Mayse continues to show that he can be a reliable bat for the Generals. He shows an aggressive approach with plate discipline. There is a hit tool ability with some sneaky strength to the pull side and some of the best bat to ball skills in the state. It was a good early season look at Mayse as he looks to be a run producer and steadying presence at the top of the order this spring.

Phoenix Williams OF / 1B / PDG Academy, VA / 2024Lean strength and above average runner and athlete. Hands stay inside at contact and has some adjustability in the swing. Has shown more doubles power and seems to get to the barrel more consistently. Mt. St. Mary’s commit.
