The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
Take a look at a few games and players that stood out over the past week of play.

Cosby
|
Blake LaMattina SS / RHP / Cosby, VA / 2027The highly ranked sophomore has an athletic, projectable 6-foot-0 frame. At the plate, he has a wider setup and rhythm in the hands, with a simple, level barrel path. In his second at bat of the game, LaMattina showcased his ability to use the whole field, driving an outside pitch the other way for a double. On defense, he has soft hands and athletic footwork, with a short, strong arm from shortstop. A toolsy player that is a 2027 name to know.

Michael Williams RHP / COSBY HIGH, VA / 2025Williams is a Louisburg Junior College commit who pitches with tons of confidence. He has a 6-foot-3 proportional frame and throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, with long arm action. His mechanics are controlled and repeatable with an easy effort level. He showed above average control of his fastball and the ability to throw his tight slider/cutter in any count. In his five innings of relief, Williams was dominant, allowing no hits.

Andrew Lee OF / LHP / King William, VA / 2025The Eastern Mennonite commit has a wiry 5-foot-10 frame, with long arm action from a low three-quarters slot. His fastball has gradual arm side run, which he mixed well with his breaking ball that has a bigger shape to it. In his outing, he ended up going five innings, allowing zero hits.

Brady McCormack RHP / 1B / MONACAN HIGH, VA / 2027McCormack has a long 6-foot-2 frame, with a normal effort level delivery. He has a short arm action from a three-quarters slot. The fastball has gradual arm side run and was up to 87 mph, while also mixing in a slider that has late depth at 74 to 77. Over four innings of work, McCormack was pitching to contact, allowing weak contact and gave up no runs. The sophomore right-handed pitcher is someone to keep an eye on.

His fastball filled up the zone all night with some late life to it. Over the course of the game, he showcased two different breaking pitches that kept hitters guessing. The first had a more slider-sweeper shape, ranging from 74 to 76 mph. The second was a tighter cutter shaped pitch at 77 to 79 mph. Hayes had a dominant performance, striking out thirteen hitters and helped his team come away with the shutout victory.
