The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

Take a look at a few games and players that stood out over the past week of play.

Damian Sasser C / CHURCHLAND HIGH, VA / 2026

Sasser had one of the best offensive showings of the day. He picked up two hits including a double to the opposite field. He has a simple approach with the ability to use the whole field. He showcased his ability behind the plate by throwing out a runner at second during the game.

Colgan

Gavin Knox RHP / OF / Colgan, VA / 2027

Grassfield

Giacomo Franco LHP / OF / GRASSFIELD HIGH, VA / 2026

Franco had an electric outing in relief. He came on in a big spot and was able to minimize the damge. He showed feel for the breaking ball early and late in counts. The changeup was used effectively to left handed hitters that later set up the breaking ball. The fastball sat in the 86-88 range that worked well off of the secondary pitches. He finished his outing with six strikeouts.

Kettle Run

Lucas Bellovich OF / RHP / KETTLE RUN HIGH SCH, VA / 2026

Bellovich has some physicality at the plate that translates in game. He flew out to the warning track in center in his first at-bat and short hopped the base of the fence in his last. He is short to contact with extension through the ball. The swing is uphill and that generates that loft and carry.

Dane Popelka 3B / RHP / Kettle Run, VA / 2025

Harrison Skinner RHP / SS / KETTLE RUN HIGH SCH, VA / 2026

It is a lankier frame with a drop and drive delivery that creates some crossfire. He throws from a low slot with a short arm action that is loose and has some quickness. The fastball was 84-86 touching 87, that got some swing and miss up with some ride. The slider was outstanding, with wipeout power with sharp 10/4 break at 71-74. He flashed a changeup to left handed hitters at 77-78 with some late fade. The curveball was mixed in as well with more 11/5 tilt at 67-70. He finished with five innings of work and striking out nine.

Ayden Walker OF / LHP / Lynchburg Christian Academy, VA / 2025

Maury

Derek Baker RHP / 3B / MAURY HIGH, VA / 2025

Baker had a strong showing on the mound in his three innings of work. The fastball was 85-88 that worked on the corners. He landed the slider for strikes all game that worked really well off of the fastball. Baker made some big pitchs to overcome some early innng hits.

Lee Garris OF / 3B / MAURY HIGH, VA / 2026

It was my second time seeing Garris this week and I walked away impressed. He is able to spray the ball around the yard with line drives. He also played a solid third base with fluid actions. The run tool plays in game when he stole multiple bases during the week. He is one to circle moving forward.

Rustburg

Colt Bryant LHP / OF / RUSTBURG HIGH, VA / 2027

Smithfield

Walton Bondurant SS / RHP / Smithfield, VA / 2025

It was a standout day for Bondurant as he contributed in multiple facets of the game. He went 3-3 at the plate including two homeruns. He also took the mound and worked up to 86 to get the save in the win for Smithfield. He is a contributor in many ways that leads this Smithfield team.
