Over the past week our staff has gotten out to a handful of games and scrimmages. As we prepare for the full high school schedule we wanted to bring all of that coverage and notes from the past week into one place.
*The X platform has been experiencing issues and prevented our staff from pulling some notes from the Walsingham & Greenbrier Christian game.*

Brett Beasley SS / RHP / Atlantic Shores Christian, VA / 2025Biggest things that stood out here with Beasley is the weight/strength that he has added to the frame. He has really filled out, the added strength is proportional, has maintained his athleticism with the added bulk, and it should transfer into impact at the plate. Had a deep flyball to center in his first at bat, doubled in his second at bat, a weak groundball to the left side, and then a HBP in his final at bat. Toe tap stride, does slide forward into the swing, but firms up and tends to finish centered. Slightly above average runner that posted a 4.48 turn on his double. Hopped on the mound in relief. Was up to 92, but worked mainly 89-91. Effort and intent to the delivery. Control over command and throw over pitch. Attacking reliever profile. While the slider was firm at 82-83, it has shown better shape in the past.

Patrick Dudley LHP / OF / Atlantic Shores, VA / 2025The South Carolina commit was 89-92 through his four innings of work, with his final pitch of the third inning touching 93. He was deeper in counts and was missing up with the fastball early on, but settled in a little more in the 3rd and 4th innings, punching the side in the 4th inning. He essentially showed two breaking balls during this outing, while both offered similar shape, but one was more get over early in the count and the two strike one that he showed a handful of times was pretty good. The early count breaker was more slurve and had softer shape at 75-78 mph, while the two strike pitch was 80-82 and had hard depth and some sweep. He showed one kick change at 80 mph. What is next? More efficient in the zone, especially early in the outing. He has shown the ability to miss some bats and compete in the zone with the fastball. He does not necessarily need to be a "command" arm, but could show some improved control with the fastball so he isn't getting so deep in counts.

Liberty Christian

Bryce Torres SS / 2B / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2026Torres wasted no time getting the offense going in the top of the first for the Bulldogs when he battled deep into the count and turned the barrel for a double into the right center gap. It is a relaxed setup with a rhythmic load that gets some natural loft in the swing. While it was his only hit of the night, it was good to see him getting his feet wet competing against live pitching after missing out on offense last spring. One thing that hasn't changed is his slick glove at shortstop. He has a good pocket presense and pace showing off some range and athletic ability to make plays in the dirt. |
St. Alban's
|
Henry Miller C / OF / St. Albans School, VA / 2026Miller came up to the plate in a big spot for the Bulldogs where he cashed in with a couple of runners in scoring position, sending a single through the left side to get some offensive momentum going. It is a wider base with rhythm in the hands that keeps a short, level barrel path. He showed some controlled aggression getting swings off on pitches in the zone. It is a solid 6-foot, 170-pound frame with some athleticism that plays behind the plate, as well as offensively. Can be a key guy in the middle of the order throughout this spring.

Myles Upchurch RHP / 3B / St. Albans, VA / 2025Strong and durable 6-foot-4 frame. Pretty normal effort delivery and repeats it well. Pretty solid outing, especially this early and considering the weather as well. The fastball sat 91-93 and touched 94 once. He held velo through his third inning of work. The Alabama commit showed three secondary pitches, featuring a curveball, slider, and changeup. The slider is the winner, sitting 84-87 with some late depth and simply evaluating on the velo alone, it is an elite high school pitch. Both the curveball and changeup are solid third and fourth pitches, with them having some shape and feel for the strikezone. Upchurch possesses the most complete arsenal of any VA/DC pitcher and probably shows the most polish as well.

St. Anne's Belfield

Brooks Fox C / OF / St. Anne's Belfield, VA / 2026One of the hardest hit balls of the night came off the bat of Fox early in the game where he sent a hard hit double off the top of the wall in center field to bring in a runner in scoring position. He gives this lineup a left handed bat in a mostly right handed hitting lineup that can be a run producer and hit for extra bases. The offense that he can produce for this team will be very important for them as this spring continues.

Will Yow SS / RHP / Saint Anne's-Belfield, VA / 2026Yow had himself looking like he was in mid-season form with an early three hit performance, coming just a triple shy of the cycle. He picked up his double to leadoff the bottom half of the first with the homerun and singled in the following three at bats. The biggest thing that stood out in these at bats was his pitch recognition where he was able to see secondary pitches and adjust to get his best swing off. He is the catalyst at the top of the order than can change the game with his premium run tool and his hitting ability to get this team's offense going. |
St. John's
|
Clayton Armah RHP / 3B / St. John's College, VA / 2025Long and thin 6-foot-4 frame. Controlled tempo and lower effort delivery. Lands slightly closed at foot strike. Medium length to the arm swing and a fairly clean operation. Armah started out this outing with some 89-91 and touched a 92 before settling more 88-89 through the remainder of his outing. The curveball was 71-74 mph with gradual, softer shape. He mixed one slider in towards the end of his outing at 78 mph. Control was a tick down on the day from where we have seen him, landing more of a 1:1 ratio of balls to strikes. Most of the misses were up in the zone. While the control wasn't quite where we have seen it, he still managed to make pitches when he needed to and worked around some traffic.

Nate Hawton-Henley OF / SS / ST JOHNS COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, VA / 2025One of the biggest things that was noticed was the strength that has been added to his dynamic, athletic frame over the winter. That strength helped when he picked up a hit in his first at bat where he muscled a pitch through the left side. There has also been a slight hand adjustment in his battng setup that has helped be able to turn the barrel even more. He brings a versatile offense where he can hit for average, flash some power, and drag bunt, using his premium run tool for hits to go along with his feel for the strike zone.

Michael Todero RHP / SS / St. John's College , VA / 2026Lean 6-foot-2 frame listed at 170-pounds. Slow build-up and pace to the delivery with a longer arm swing and lands on line working down the mound. Gets pretty open with the chest and shoulders and delivers from a three-quarter arm slot. The arm can get disconnected and out of sync at times, contributing to some arm side misses on both the fastball and slider. Seems to be more consistent when he is a little bit quicker paced to the plate and the arm seems to move quicker and get on time. The fastball was 87-89 mph and touched 90 twice with nobody on, while he stayed more 84-87 while working from the stretch. The slider was 74-77 with some hard bite when he got it to the glove side half of the plate.
