LOUISIANA TOP 5 MOMENTS OF 2025
#1: Sam Houston wins the Non-Select Division I State Title
Sam Houston’s march to the Non-Select Division I State Title was one of the most memorable postseason runs we’ve seen in recent years—and for good reason. Entering the playoffs as the No. 11 seed, the Broncos faced a gauntlet from the very start. After knocking off St. Amant in the opening round, they hit the road to face defending state champion West Monroe and delivered back-to-back, come-from-behind wins to stun the Rebels and advance.
In the quarterfinals, Sam Houston handled business at home, sweeping Slidell to punch their ticket to the semifinals and a much-anticipated showdown with district rival Barbe. On the Bucs’ home turf, the Broncos rose to the moment once again, taking the series and earning a spot in the state championship against top-seeded Live Oak.
A tough Game 1 loss meant Sam Houston needed consecutive wins to claim the title—no easy task against a team of Live Oak’s caliber. But Head Coach Chad Hebert’s group never flinched. The Broncos came from behind in both Games 2 and 3, completing an improbable run and capturing the Non-Select Division I State Championship in storybook fashion.
