Q&A With Purdue Commit Dylan Schreiber
December 30, 2025
RHP Dylan Schreiber (Waukesha West, 2027) one of the top right-handers in the class with an upside frame that stands out to pair with an upside and complementary three pitch mix from a low slot. The fastball tops out in the low-90s with more on the way, playing with life and heavy sinking action flashing feel to locate throughout the zone at times. Both secondaries flash upside, more confident in the slider with tight sweeping action and a heavy fading changeup with considerable depth to the pitch. Chance to start at a high level with proven command for three pitches with a high upside to pair.
We recently had the chance to talk to Dylan about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.
Our Q&A
Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Dylan: I didn’t really have too many expectations. I was really just looking for a school that I could start as a freshman and that had good academics.
PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
D: Purdue’s coaching staff stood out. I really felt like I connected well and was being prioritized there. Also, the development and academics are top-tier at Purdue.
PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
D: I would say being consistent and having a training plan. I started planning my throwing, strength, conditioning, and nutrition for each week. Dialing this in holes me accountable and has allowed me to stay healthy, improve command, and to throw harder.
PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
D: I wanted to stay somewhat close to home. Not a huge fan of airplane or long car rides. Fortunately, Purdue is pretty close to home.
PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
D: The week of August 1st was super busy. I had like 30 schools reach out the first week. Purdue saw me twice, at Grand Park and at Lakepoint. I pitched pretty well at both events which really caught their attention.
PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?
D: The Future Games got me in front of lots of schools. I felt like throwing well down there really changed my entire recruiting process for the better.
PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
D: Right before I committed, I was considering schools like UCF, Kansas, South Carolina, and Cincinnati.
PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
D: Probably either Cooper Schaefgen or Ben Kuglitsch. Both are really good hitters and they get to see me in live ABs and in high school ball.
PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?
D: I would take Cal Schneider’s command. I think it would really take my game to the next level if I had a feel for the zone with all my pitches consistently.
PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?
D: I would say keep an eye on Dom Melby. I think he’s got the work ethic and is prepared for a big spring ahead of him.
PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
D: Probably during my 8th grade year. For the first time ever I worked on a structure. I had a really good offseason that year and set me up to play varsity my freshman spring.
PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
D: It would probably be our win against Waukesha North in conference play. I threw 5 innings giving up 1 run and got two hits at the plate.
PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
D: I think our team will be pretty similar to last year’s squad. Even though we lost a lot of seniors, we still have a lot of underclassmen with a lot of potential.
