2026 High School Team Preview: Miller County Pirates

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Miller County Pirates made a Sweet Sixteen appearance a year ago and they look poised to carry that momentum heading into the Spring. Coach Will Pierce returns six starters from last year's team and will have to rely upon some underclass talent to produce. Leading the way for the club is 2026 1B/LHP Thomas Cook, who hit for a .390 avg. along with 5 home runs in ‘25. The uncommitted senior boasts immense strength in a physical 6-foot-1 frame and will be relied upon as a major power source in the middle-of-the-order. Cook also anchors the staff as SP1 backed by pitchability and experience. Uncommitted senior and QB1, SS/C Dru Johnson, led the team in hits last year (32) as he brings a strong hit-tool and athleticism to the lineup. Offers value defensively along with bolstering the pitching staff as he provides invaluable experience and is expected to shoulder significant innings for the Pirates. Fellow uncommitted juniors in CF/LHP Brayden Horn and UTL Tucker Clay supply the lineup with a veteran presence and yield consistency. Horn polishes off a stout starting rotation as he brings quality pitchability and strengthens the depth. Underclass impact comes by the way of UTL/RHP Creek Durden who is going to be tasked with filling multiple roles on both sides of the ball. As well as sophomore INF Hezikiah Judkins who gained crucial experience as he hit for a .344 average last season and looks to carry a major role once again. It’s a versatile group that Coach Pierce has that will aim to break through and win the region and make a run in the playoffs.
