Prep Baseball Mississippi Staff

The 2026 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2026 OUTLOOK

+ Tupelo Christian Prep enters the 2026 season coming off a strong 19–10 campaign that saw the Eagles advance to the third round of the MHSAA 1A playoffs. Under head coach Andrew Herrington, TCPS has established itself as a consistent postseason presence in Region 3, and much of that success can be attributed to a battle-tested core that returns on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, the Eagles bring back a versatile and experienced lineup headlined by Itawamba CC commit Logan Umfress, a physical presence at first base who anchors the middle of the order. Nate Cornelison, Bryce Godown, and Brooks Bresee provide athleticism and depth in the outfield, while Jack Decker and Dawson Ward add two-way value with their ability to impact games both offensively and on the mound. The middle of the field remains steady with Northeast Mississippi CC commit Jax Coker and fellow backstop Matthew McDaniel, giving TCPS leadership, toughness, and flexibility defensively.

On the mound, the Eagles return a reliable pitching staff with multiple arms capable of filling key roles. Coker leads the way as a proven strike-thrower, while Ward and Decker give TCPS athletic right-handers who can handle meaningful innings. Young arms Reeves Kenney and JD Wamble add upside and depth, and the continued development of underclassmen Knox Hensley and Weston Woods only strengthens the overall roster. With experience, balance, and postseason confidence, Tupelo Christian Prep looks poised to once again be a factor in Class 1A as the new season approaches.
